NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Heavy rain on Friday right through to all day on Saturday put paid to games involving our Academy, under-eight, under-nine and under-14 teams.

One team who did play were the under-12s who travelled to the wilds of Ballyman to play Enniskerry. In a ding dong tussle between the two teams the game ended 3-3. Newtown had to score three equalizers in the game through Patrick Martin (2) and Aaron Cawley. In fact according to the ‘Gaffer’ Rory, Patrick’s second goal and Newtown’s third equalizer from a free kick with the last kick of the game was Beckham like. On the day among the players who starred on the day were Jack Coughlan and Patrick Martin.

Our 10’s hosted Avonmore on Sunday morning in glorious sunshine and came out on top by the odd goal in five. Ryan Collins with a superb header, Max Roche finishing of a lovely move and an own goal accounted for the Newtown goals. On the day best for Newtown were Aaron Roy, Pat Carey, Darren Fisher and Kacey Kelly.

Our under-11s completed their Champions League programme of matches with an away game against WDSL Academy and after a tight and evenly contested game Newtown lost their first game on a 1-0 scoreline. Our under-12s Hannah Martin scored the only goal of the game just before halftime. Best for Newtown were Rose Kelly Tynan, PJ Duffy and Cormac Chance. The result however didn’t alter the final standings as Newtown topped the group with the Academy in second place.
