BEVERAGE TASTING NIGHT

Wicklow Rugby Club will be hostinng an exclusive tasting event in its clubhouse from 7.30 p.m., featuring a selection of Irish whiskey, gin, vodka and beer. Tickets cost €15, are limited and are selling fast.

MISS HAVISHAM’S HIGH SOCIETY HALLOWE’EN TEA

Victorian Tea Times in Arklow will host tea with a terrifying twist from 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Miss Havisham’s High Society Hallowe’en Tea will include spinetingl­ig storytelli­ng, where guests will follow Death and his story of the Three Brothers, delicious food and spellbindi­ng cocktails. Tickets cost €45 from Victorian Tea Times.

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE PARTY

Greystones Film Club are helping Frank-N-Furter and all the gang from the Rocky Horror Picture Show take over the Whale Theatre from 8 p.m. for a night of devious delights, with live dancers, shady chancers and wide-eyed romancers. As well as the film screening, there will be prizes for the best fancy dress, the finest monster mashes known to devil and beast on the sound system, and lots more surprises for the spookiest, grooviest party in town. Tickets cost €10 and are available from the Whale.

DAVID HOCKNEY AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS

Mermaid Arts Centre presents a screening of this illuminati­ng documentar­y into David Hockney, one of Britain’s most popular artists. Beginning at 8 p.m., the film features intimate and in-depth interviews with Hockney and focuses on two blockbuste­r exhibition­s held in 2012 and 2016 at the Royal Academy of Art in London. Tickets cost €8.50 and are available from the Mermaid.

THE ROLLER TRIO

Music Network presents an evening of punchy grooves, high octane technicali­ty, deceptivel­y catchy riffs and swirling electronic­a as the Mercury Award-nominated Roller Trio roar into the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely at 8.30 p.m. Tickets cost €15 (€13 conc) from the courthouse.

FANCY DRESS FUNDRAISER

Fance dress at the Porterhous­e in Bray in aid of Bray Cardiac First Responders. Hosted by Smiley’s Charity Events.

REMEMBERIN­G JOE

The Joe Dolan tribute show ‘Rememberin­g Joe’ hits the stage in the Arklow Bay Hotel. Vocalists Ben Dolan, Adrian Dolan, Ray Dolan, Sandra Dolan and Karen Carroll will perform with the original Joe Dolan Band. Tickets cost €30.

HALLOWE’EN SOCIAL DANCE

A Hallowe’en Social Dance will take place in Kiltegan Hall in aid of Tinkerbell Pre-school Ltd. Music will be by Adrian Ryan.

CREEPY COFFEE MORNING

A Hallowe’en coffee morning and cake bake will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, in aid of Crossbridg­e NS. There will be plenty of chat and delicious treats on offer, while a raffle will also take place.

HALLOWEEN DISCO

Crossbridg­e Hall will be rocking from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. as it hosts a fancy dress Hallowe’en disco featuring treats, games and a raffle, all in aid of Crossbridg­e NS. Adults go free, children cost €5, while families of three cost €12 and families of four cost €15.

HALLOWE’EN ON THE FARM

Glenroe Farm will be absolutely fearsome this Hallowe’en as it hosts a range of activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Scary Maize Maze Game ‘Spellbound’ takes place at 11 a.m., 1.30 p.m. and 4 p.m. while a puppet show is on at noon and 2.30 p.m. There is also a haunted cottage, nature walk, farm animals and more. All events are covered under normal admission prices - €7 for adults and children or €25 for families – but guests must collect a special ticket for the maze game at the admission desk.

COUNTRY MARKET

North Wicklow Country Market will hold its Christmas tastings of cakes, puddings and mince pies from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at Newcastle Community Centre. Customers can sample the goods and place orders for Christmas, if desired.

COFFEE MORNING

A coffee morning and sale will take place at Redcross Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be home baking, teas, coffees and scones, country produce, books, bric-a-brac, toys and more. A raffle will also be held and there will be free entry and parking.

ATTRACTING BIRDS TO YOUR GARDEN

Declan Murphy continues his series of talks on gardens and birds with a lecture on attracting birds to your garden at Bray Library from 11 a.m. to noon.

HALLOWE’EN TRAIN

From 11 a.m. to 5.20 p.m., jump aboard the Rathwood Express and try to save terrible twins Wizzie and Lizzie from the wicked witch. Suitable for younger children (babies up to eight years old), it gets a little scarier after 4 p.m. for bigger children. The cost is €10 per child and €7 per adult.

PUMPKIN CARVING

Head over to the pumpkin patch at Killrudder­y’s walled garden from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and choose a pumpkin for carving, then design and carve (adults only) your petrifying pumpkin creation. Booking in advance is recommende­d. A family ticket (two adults, two children and two pumpkins) costs €35 with an option to add-on extra children, adults or pumpkins. A reduced rate is available to Killrudder­y members.

SCARECROW MAKING

The bowling green at Killrudder­y is hosting a scarecrow competitio­n from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and creative families are welcome to join in. In the days before hand, families can prepare by designing the head and hunting out old clothes to bring along. Killrudder­y will provide the plot, a wooden frame to hang the scarecrow on and lots of straw for stuffing them. Booking in advance is recommende­d. A family ticket (two adults, two children, one scarecrow patch and materials) costs €40 with an option to add-on extra children, adults or scarecrows. A reduced rate is available to Killrudder­y members.

TREASURE HUNT

Go on a free 30-minute treasure hunt in the National Park to find some facts about Halloween, nature and folklore. Drop in to the informatio­n office at the Upper Lake, Glendaloug­h, at any time between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to start.

GHOOOUL PLANET

Primary School children are welcome to take part in the Ghoooul Planet Ex-Scream-ience at the Cool Planet Experience in Powerscour­t Estate. Children will be transporte­d the year 2050 to see what the earth could look like if climate change isn’t addressed. The fun extends to them making their own Hallowe’en costume to take home. The workshops take place on the hour from noon to 3 p.m. and cost €10 per child. Tickets are available from the Cool Planet Experience.

POISONOUS PANTRY

Children are invited to come along to the tearooms at Russboroug­h to enjoy some spooky stories and cookie-decorating fun on the hour from noon to 3 pm. The cost is €7.50 per child. Contact Russboroug­h House to book a place.

PUMPKIN PICKING

Hop aboard the tractor and trailer at Tinahely Farm Shop to collect a naturally grown pumpkin from the field between noon and 2.30 p.m. The cost is €15 per child, while adults go free, but booking and pre-payment is essential.

MONSTER MASH

Hidden Valley Holiday Park in Rathdrum hosts the classic ‘Monster Mash’. Skeletons and goblins greet you at reception on your arrival to celebrate Halloween. You can look forward to trick-or-treating, best costume award for both adults and children, spooky story telling, haunted games and challenges and some surprise special effects.

HALLOWE’EN AT RIVER VALLEY.

Visit River Valley Holiday Park, Redcross, from 4 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. to follow the yellow brick road to the emerald city, where Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked to the magical Land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. Entry is €5 per person.

TRICK OR TREAT ON THE STREET

A free Trick or Treat on the Street event takes place in Wicklow town. Registrati­on takes place at the

De La Salle Pastoral Centre from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Children must be accompanie­d by a parent or guardian at all times.

MET OPERA: LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST

The Whale Theatre will host a live satellie screening of this romantic epic of the Wild West. Soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek sings Puccini’s gun-slinging heroine alongside star tenor Jonas Kaufmann in the role of the outlaw Dick Johnson. Baritone Željko Lucic is the vigilante sheriff Jack Rance, and Marco Armiliato conducts. The show starts at 5.55 p.m., tickets cost €25 and are available from the Whale.

HALLOWE’EN BALL
