Unawareof charge

An Aughrim man facing a charge over his car tax told Arklow District Court that he was unaware of the charge until he came to court on another matter.

Tadhg Byrne of 14 Millwood was charged with the non display of a tax disc on Riverwalk, Arklow, on November 27, 2017.

The court heard that Byrne had moved out of the family home after the date of the offence and was unaware that a summons had arrived. He said that his father signed for the registered letter but it was never passed on to him.

Judge Kennedy said that he would have to speak to the person who signed for the letter and adjourned the matter to November 14 for them to give evidence.
