Commemoration for soldier and garda

A commemoration ceremony to honour the lives of a soldier and a Garda with Baltinglass connections will take place on Sunday, November 4.

Private Michael McGuinn, a native of Baltinglass who was killed in the Niemba Ambush in the Congo on the 8th Novem- ber 1960, and Garda Patrick O’Halloran, a native of Gort, Co Galway, who was killed in Baltinglass in the line of duty on 29th January 1924.

The event will take place as a joint Commemoration Ceremony involving the Defence Forces and An Garda Siochána and the unveiling of a memorial stone in the square in Baltinglass town centre.

Amongst the invited guests will be an Assistant Garda Commissioner and a representative of the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces. The ceremony gets underway at 12 noon.
