President brings campaign to Wicklow
President Michael D Higgins paid a visit to County Wicklow last weekend, taking in a walk on the prom in Bray and a visit to the Happy Pear in Greystones.
Minister Simon Harris accompanied the president on his whistle-stop tour of the area, just days before voters decide whether to give him another seven years in Áras an Uachtaráin.
President Higgins has urged the electorate to turn out this Friday, stating that this election comes at a critical time in Ireland’s history. ‘As we commemorate 100 years of the extension to women of the right to vote, and as we face a critical point in Ireland’s history, I urge to use your vote, because it matters,’ he said. ‘ The Presidency draws its strength and mandate from the direct vote of the Irish people. You choose who represents and speaks for our country at home and abroad. It sends a signal about of the kind of Ireland we want, about the values and vision we share for our country and how we want to live together.’
