Celebrating 50 years of Post Primary GAA
GAA 50 ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
THIS year is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Post Primary schools board in County Wicklow.
On Friday night a celebration dinner was held in the Arklow Bay Hotel. Guests came from many parts of the country as well as all areas of the county.
Fear an Ti Jim Murphy introduced the speakers for the night Brian Breen Chairman Wicklow Post Primary schools, Martin Fitzgerald Chairman of Wicklow Co Board, Leinster Schools Chairman Des Halpenny from Louth and All Ireland Schools chairman Seamus Woods from Tyrone.
Other special guests included Leinster GAA CEO Michael Reynolds and the CEO of KWETB Dr Deirdre Keyes.
Two of the founder members from 1968, Hugh O’Brien and Kevin Lee, were present and received presentations. A third founder member, Gerry McIntyre, was unable to attend but will receive his presentation in due course.
Presentations were also made to the chairmen and secretaries of Wicklow schools board through the years as well as the five men who had captained Wicklow Schools in All-Ireland finals. They were Pat Ryan, Larry Tompkins (who travelled from Cork), Kevin O’Brien, John Bookle and Niall McGraynor.
