Enjoyable rugby blitz in Ashtown Lane

-

WICKLOW RFC’s under-9s, 11s and 12s welcomed their counterparts from Arklow and Carlow to Ashtown Lane on Sunday morning.

Mostly dry conditions meant made for a good morning’s rugby and the teams put in some great performances much to the delight of the many spectators.

Wicklow under-9s have had a busy few weeks and they went into this week’s South East blitz with great experience under their belts. Wicklow fielded two under-9 teams to take on one team from each visiting club.

On a perfect day for running rugby all three clubs played three games each which all proved very competitive. The biggest run of the day was to the club house at the final whistle where all the kids enjoyed the Wicklow hospitality.

Wicklow’s under--11s had three very en- gaging games against Carlow and Arklow.

Both visiting clubs presented tough opposition producing some fine rugby from all the teams.

Again Wicklow fielded two teams and both put up strong defenses. Their attacking play resulted in plenty of well worked tries to keep the crowd entertained.

The U-12s had a great outing against Carlow in Ashtown Lane.

Both teams were very well matched which led to some great forward contests and some great displays by the backs who moved the ball wide with increasing confidence as the games went on. They played two matches of 20 minutes each.

Rucking had been a key area of preparation before the games and it was encouraging to see some of the skills being learned on the training field translate into matches.

All Minis are back in training next week at 11am.
