Thieves force way into Topaz garage

October 2008

-

ANOTHER Wicklow garage was hit over the weekend in what has now almost become a weekly occurrence. Sometime on Sunday night, intruders managed to force their way into the Topaz garage in Ashford and fled with a large amount of cash and some cigarette cartons.

The premises was closed at the time and no members of staff were on duty.

An alarm system was disabled and it’s also believed CCTV cameras were also interfered with. The break-in was discovered when staff arrived on Monday morning to open up for the usual daytime business. A spate of service station burglaries have taken place throughout the county lately, including raids in Wicklow Town, Kilcoole, Arklow and Greystones.

Last week two men were also arrested and brought in for questioning over a robbery at Newcastle Service Station.
