HOLY REDEEMER PARISH

Evening Mass: There will be a 7 p.m. Evening Mass today (Wednesday), tomorrow (Thursday) and on Friday.

Holy Redeemer Youth Centre Open Night: The Youth Centre is always interested in new members which offers a friendly, fun environmen­t including movie nights, organised trips, baking and much more. Open for sixth class on a Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Open for first years on a Wednesday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., on a Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on a Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

First Communion Mass – Do This In Memory: This Sunday at 10.30 a.m. there will be a Holy Communion Programme Mass for all children making their First Holy Communion in 2019. We look forward to seeing the boys and girls and their parents or guardians for this special Mass.

The Nazarine Community Charismati­c Prayer Group: Invite you to Life in the Spirit Seminars. The First Speaker is Brendan Shanahan (Founder of Laus Deo Healing Ministries) in the Little Flower Hall, beside the Holy Re- deemer Church, starting tonight (Wednesday) from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. (and every other Wednesday for seven weeks). Young at Heart Dinners: Every Friday at 12.30 p.m. Come along and enjoy great food and a game of bingo.

Altar List of the Dead envelopes and Sheets: Altar list of the dead envelopes and sheets are available for collection at the back of the church. All, whose names are listed will be remembered at Masses celebrated on the feast of All Saints, the feast of All Souls, and at the 9.30 a.m. Mass on the First Monday of every month throughout the year. On Tuesday, November 6, Mass will be celebrated at 7.30 p.m. to remember all of our parishione­rs who have died during the past year. All Are welcome.

Feast of All Saints – Thursday of November 1: Masses are at 8 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. Vigil Mass on Wednesday, October 31, at 7 p.m.

Perpetual Eucharisti­c Adoration: As you know we are always looking for new adorers and would be very grateful for help during the night hours from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. and 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. and 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. Please contact the sacristy at 01 2723865.

Lectio Divina: A prayerful reflection on the following Sundays gospel takes place in Villa Pacis every Wednesday, after 10.30 a.m. Mass.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group: Will have an additional drop in morning at the Villa Pacis on the first Friday of every month starting on November 2 after the 10.30 a.m. Mass for those affected by grief and loss.

QOP YOUTH CLUB

Mike O’Carroll is organising trips, and survival sessions for the Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club members in addition to the main club programme. On Saturday 10 young people learned how to sew on buttons, use hammers, and following that they enjoyed games. During the next few sessions they will learn to use other tools, and equipment required for outdoor survival.

DIVING CLUB

At Wicklow Aquanauts Sub-Aqua Club AGM Ann McAvoy was elected as chairperso­n and secretary, David Kerr as diving officer, Cormac O’Carroll as treasurer, Albert Kerr as training and premises officer, and Brendan Moran as committee member.

Congratula­tions to Tony, who led his first dive on Sunday with his buddy Dave McKeon. The club is organising a dive in Portroe Slate Quarry where dives will range down to 20 metres. Free introducto­ry pool dives are on offer. Call Albert at 087 6756439 to secure a place.

BRAY LIBRARY

Bray Library opening hours are – Monday/Wednesday/ Friday/Saturday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday – 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Borrowers are reminded that books can be renewed by phone – call 01 2862600.

The library will be closed this Saturday and next Monday due to the October Bank Holiday weekend.

CUALANN SOCIETY.

Last Thursday James Scannell, PRO of the Bray Cualann Historical Society, the local history society for Bray and North Wicklow Society presented illustrate­d talk ‘The Sinking of the RMS Leinster – October 10, 1918, and the last days of the war’ in the Royal Hotel, Main Street, Bray.

The presentati­on recalled the worst peacetime or wartime maritime tragedy to occur in the Irish Sea when the outward bound day sailing of the mail boat RMS Leinster was torpedoed within sight of land with the loss of at least 564 of those on board ironically one month and a day before the Armistice which marked the end of World War one came in force. All those present received a special souvenir An Post postcard featuring the sinking of the RMS Leinster courtesy of the Dun Laoghaire Tourist Informatio­n office. This presentati­on is available for presentati­on to local schools and community groups on request – contact 2823135 to arrange a screening of this pres- entation.

Prior to this lecture Bray Cualann Historical Society chairman Brian White outlined details of the forthcomin­g Josephine Heffernan exhibition which will take place in Mermaid Arts Centre in early November is conjunctio­n with events organised by Christ Church Bray to mark the centenary of the 1918 Armistice which marked the end of the First World War.

Brian also outlined the Society’s programme for 2019’ details of which will shortly be posted on the Bray Cualann Historical Society website.

Some other events of interest for members and supporters of the Bray Cualann Historical Society are tonight’s (Wednesday) 6 p.m. lecture by Colm Lennon on ‘ Richard Stanihurst (15471618): Dublin’s Earliest Historian’ to the Old Dublin Society in Dublin City Library and Archive, 138144 Pearse Street, Dublin two. All welcome – admission free; tomorrow’s (Thursday) 7.30 p.m. Frank Mitchell Lecture of the Royal Society of Antiquarie­s of Ireland which will be presented by Geraldine Stout on ‘Reading the Irish Cistercian Landscape’ in the Society’s 63 Merrion Square, Dublin two, premises – all welcome; admission free; next Monday morning’s 11.30 a.m. Shankill Tidy Towns historic walk ‘4 Castles and a Corn Mill, led by Rob Goodbody – meet at Shanganagh Castle, Bray Road, Shankill – Please note that this is a community activity organised by volunteers who accept no liability for injuries or loss caused to participan­ts in this walk; the Thursday, November 1, 8 p.m. lecture by Ruth Ferguson on ‘The original Houses of Belfield’ to the Mount Merrion Historical Society in the community centre, North Avenue, Mount Merrion, Co. Dublin. All welcome – admission €4/Students €2; and the Saturday, November 3, Medal Society of Ireland ‘Medal and Militaria Fair’ from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the Knox Hall, Monkstown Village, Co. Dublin, at which visitors can buy, trade, swap or get free valuations/identifica­tions of medals.

Members and Supporters of the Bray Cualann Historical Society are also reminded that the Old Bray Society has published a special limited issue of the Bray Historical Record – ‘First World War Special Issue’ which recalls those from the county who took part in this conflict. CHANGE OF BUS OPERATOR

Last Sunday Go-Ahead Ireland took over the operation of former Dublin Bus routes 184 (Bray – Newtownmou­ntkennedy); and the 185 (Bray – Palermo) and (Bray – Enniskerry) and will now operate these; services. Timetables for the Go-Ahead Ireland service were distribute­d to the public during the week by representa­tives of Transport for Ireland. Timetables can be downloaded from their website goaheadire­land.ie.
