ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: Operates Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the first Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

Bethany Bereavemen­t National Bereavemen­t Support for Adults: A five-week Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group programme will take place in St Anne’s Resource Centre, Shankill, from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on the following dates in 2019 – Monday, January 14, Monday, January 21, Monday, January 28, Monday, February 4, and Monday, February 11, If you are feeling the pain of any loss at all, this series of meetings may offer support and consolatio­n in a place where healing can begin. This is a completely free service provided by trained volunteers in the community. If you would like more informatio­n or to book a place in the group please call St Anne’s Resource Centre at 01 2822704. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Group is a voluntary parish-based ministry who are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and anyone grieving any loss.

JPII Youth, Shankill: The new youth group launched last Saturday night in St Anne’s Resource Centre. The group will be aimed at people aged from 13 to 18 and will meet on following dates this year – Saturday, November 3, Saturday, November 17, and Saturday, December 15, We extend a warm welcome to all the young people in our parish who would like to meet new people, have fun and learn more about their faith. You are more than welcome to come along and bring a friend. We are very happy to hear which areas of the Catholic Faith YOU would most like to learn about, and we will arrange speakers. Garda vetted adult supervisor­s will be present for each meeting. We are seeking more adult volunteers who would be willing to supervise the group, one evening per month – please contact St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Commission­ing of new Altar Servers: The Commission­ing of new Altar Servers took place during last Sundays 10.30 a.m. Family Mass. We ask God to guide these children in their new roles and bless them throughout the year.

St Anne’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul: Many thanks for your generous contributi­ons to our recent monthly collection. We are very grateful to receive such support in our efforts to help the needy of our community.

Community Games – endless possibilit­ies: Tea or coffee and treats on Sunday, November 4, in St Anne’s Resource Centre at 11.30 a.m. following the 10.30 a.m. Mass to celebrate our 2018 successes. All invited.

Remembranc­e Mass: Will be celebrated on Sunday, November 4, at 6 p.m. in St Anne’s Church.

Christmas Fair: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 2, in St Anne’s Resource and is the principal annual parish fundraisin­g activity. Remembranc­e Stole: If you would like to honour the memory of a deceased loved one on the stole, please place a piece of cloth, distinctiv­e and with personal associatio­ns approximat­ely 10x15cm or 6’x4’, in the basket at the back of the church and it will be added to the stole for All Soul’s Day November 2.

October Film Night – This Friday: The monthly Film Night has been moved to the last Friday night of the month and will take place at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. The film for this Friday night will be ‘The Great Caruso’ starring Mario Lanza. Free Admission, Rememberin­g a loved one: Apostolic Work provides Mass kits to priests in poor parishes in developing countries. Each Mass kit can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one with an engraving on the chalice, so they are continuall­y remembered in Mass. A donation of €350 will cover the cost of a complete Mass kit and a simple inscriptio­n. The kit includes vestments, altar linens, chalice and ciborium in a light metal box for travel. If you would like to consider subscribin­g for a Mass kit or helping with a donation of any sort or becoming a sewing member please contact the parish office or Kathie Davey (2823014) for more informatio­n.

Rosary for Peace: Is said every Saturday at 3 p.m. in St Michael’s Church, Dun Laoghaire.

BOOK SALE

The November First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, takes place on Saturday, Novem- ber 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, Lower Road, Shankill, so make a point of calling into it during that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn. Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on that day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – The library will be open this Friday but closed on Saturday and next Monday due to the October Bank Holiday weekend. Howard Clarke will be the guest speaker for the Wednesday, November 7, 8 p.m. meeting of the of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area at which he will present his lecture ‘Did Brian Boru save Ireland from a Viking Conquest?’ in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, and all are welcome to attend – admission €4.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

The juvenile Aacademy is in action at 10 a.m. every Saturday in Stonebridg­e Road. Please come along and give the Academy a try. The cost is only €2 per child each week and there is no annual subscripti­on. All equipment is provided free and qualified coaches are always in attendance, its all about having fun with your friends.

Our AGM will be held on Monday, November 19, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Recourse Centre Shankill. Our local primary schools football blitz which was played in Stonebridg­e Road over two weeks was a great success and resulted in St Anne’s winning the cup and Gael Scoil Pádraig winning the shield. Good luck to St Anne’s school girls’ football team playing in Croke Park.

The weather last Saturday and Sunday week proved to be a spoil sport with only the under-10 hurlers away in a blitz with Na Gaeil Ora and Robert Emmets.

In the ‘Chase the Ace’ draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Fionnula Moran. Last week’s jackpot was €1,300. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 available in the pub or from club members.

Are you aged over 50 and interested in joining a local community social group? Shankill Social Club is looking for new members and new ideas.

Planned activities include a guest speaker with Gardening tips for the Spring and the autumn on Monday, November 19, and visit to Dail Eireann – date to be confirmed.

Work on participat­ion in the 2019 Community Games will commence on Thursday, November 8, with the holding of a meeting in St Anne’s Resource Centre, Shankill, at 8 p.m. when a planning meeting will take place and all are welcome to attend.

During last week Transport for Ireland replaced the former Dublin Bus route 45a bus timetables with those of the new operator – Go-Ahead Ireland, covering the routes 45a and 45b, at those bus stops which have display spaces on them.
