It was a good bank weekend for the footballers of Glencormac United. The under-14s were at home to Ashford Rovers and won 3-1 in another great team performance to keep the Glens top if the table with two games left to play.

The Glens started the game at a blistering pace and created a lot of chances and after 20 minutes they were rewarded when Oisin Kelly opened the scoring but then sat back a little near the end of the first half and let Ashford get into the game and they created a few half chances but it remained 1-0 at the break.

At the start of the second half, the Glens were still off the pace but gradually got on top but with 15 minutes to go, Ashford hit them on the break and it was 1-1. However, this spurned the lads and a long goal kick went over everybody for Oisin to run onto and score his second then two minutes later Oisin popped up again to complete his hatrick and his eighth goal in three games and seal the three points. Two tough games now to come against the league runner’s up Wicklow Rovers and then the league champions Rathnew to try finish in the top two and get a place in the shield final.

The under-12s also faced Ashford and were equally impressive in a 2-0 victory. Finn Kelly and Alex Condon sealed a great win and with lads away, a massive thank you to Alex and Seán Mooney, who came up from the under-11s to help out and both had great games. While the whole team played very well, the man of the match has to go to goalkeeper Harry Jones, who made three fantastic saves when the score was 1-0 and was vital to this victory against a very good Ashford team.
