Heffernan plays his part

-

AFTER a stunning season at Intermediate level this year, the Avondale hurlers captured the championship with a comprehensive victory over Arklow Rocks in Joule Park Aughrim.

In the report that appeared in this newspaper the following Wednesday, one of Avondale’s goals from the game was credited to Jack Manley.

That goal was, in fact, scored by one of Avondale’s finest: Eugene Heffernan.

Eugene came on as a substitute in this year’s decider where he replaced Gearóid Murphy and he went on to have a very positive impact on proceedings that resulted in the ’Dales making a welcome return to Senior hurling.

Eugene also played in the 1992 Intermediate hurling final for Avondale. We are happy to correct this error.
