WDSL DDSL 0 8

ARKLOW Town Football Club hosted an interesting match-up between the WDSL and DDSL under-15s in the SFAI Subway Championship on Saturday afternoon as Dublin strolled to an impressive 8-0 victory.

It was clear to see right from kick-off that it was going to be an uphill task for Wicklow if they were to try and get anything from the game as they went 1-0 down within three minutes.

DDSL were awarded a free-kick of the edge of the penalty area and was whipped in by Thomas Healy, Healy found midfielder Sam Curtis at the back post to give his side a quick lead in the game.

Wicklow keeper Roland Chlechowitz was pulling off some great saves throughout the first half and keeping his side in the game.

His best save of the half came on the 19th minute when a DDSL striker went one on one with Chlechowitz and looked like he was about to put his side 2-0 up but the Wicklow keeper got down and pulled off a great save with his legs to keep the score at 1-0.

DDSL began to dominate possession at the end of the second half and just before half-time they doubled their lead with a great free-kick from Thomas Healy, the midfielder found the corner of the net with a low driven strike that gave the Wicklow keeper no chance of keeping the ball out.

Things didn’t get better for the Wicklow side in the second half as they found themselves 3-0 down on the 40th minute through a great strike by Kevin Zefl.

Zefl had been causing problems for the Wicklow defence through the second half and was only a matter of time before he grabbed his goal.

Two second half goals from midfielder Sam Curtis meant he wrapped up his hat-trick with two fine strikes, one on the 47th minute and his third came on the 51st minute as he was set up by Callum Wynne.

Wicklow began to fight back late in the second half as their frontman Harry Broxon was proving to be a handful for the Dublin defence.

The striker often found himself isolated up front as his team mates were being dominated by the Dublin possession, this meant that Broxon had to drop deep to try and get the ball but this then meant that there was no target man to get the ball up to after they regained the possession of the ball.

Right winger Jack Murray put in an incredible performance, the winger couldn’t be stopped.

His pace, power and neat footwork made it an impossible task for the WDSL defence throughout the game.

The winger scored the goal of the game on the 60th minute as he chipped the Wicklow keeper from the edge of the penalty area, it was great awareness and vision from the winger to spot the keeper who was just off his line.

The game was wrapped up with another two goals from DDSL, substitute Aydola Habeeb came on in the 60th minute and made an instant impact as he scored the seventh goal of the game with a curling shot that found the top corner, but it was his second goal that stood out.

The striker made a dangerous run into the box and twisted and turned past the Wicklow defence before cutting inside on his preferred right foot with a Cruyff turn and finished off the move with a tidy finish.

An excellent display from the travelling DDSL side who were clinical in-front of goal and took their chances when they came their way, but for Wicklow it was a game to forget.

Stand out performances from keeper Roland Chlechowitz and striker Harry Broxon who never gave up.

WDSL under-15s look to the future now and the next fixture and will have learned a lot from this performance to take into their next game.
