Dr Michael Jackson, will confirm young people from this parish, along with candidates from Crinken, Bray and Kilternan parishes, on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 3 p.m. in Christ Church, Bray. Kilternan and Rathmichae­l will work together in the matter of preparatio­n of the candidates. Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: Operates Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the first Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

Bethany Bereavemen­t National Bereavemen­t Support for Adults: A five-week Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group programme will take place in St Anne’s Resource Centre, Shankill, from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on the following dates in 2019 – Monday, January 14, Monday, January 21, Monday, January 28, Monday, February 4, and Monday, February 11, If you are feeling the pain of any loss at all, this series of meetings may offer support and consolatio­n in a place where healing can begin. This is a completely free service provided by trained volunteers in the community. If you would like more informatio­n or to book a place in the group please call St Anne’s Resource Centre at 01 2822704. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Group is a voluntary parish-based ministry who are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and anyone grieving any loss.

Altar List of the Dead: Please find paper and pens at the end of the church to complete the Altar List of the Dead.

St Anne’s Memorial Tree: During the month of November we will have a Memorial Tree at the side of the Altar. There are leaves that will be placed in baskets around the church if you would like a deceased loved one prayed for during this month. Please write their name on a leaf and hang it on the tree.

JPII Youth, Shankill: This group is aimed at people aged 13 to 18, who wish to meet new people, have fun and learn more about their faith. The next meeting takes place this Saturday from 7.30 p.m. from 9 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Garda vetted adult supervisor­s will be present for each meeting. We are seeking more adult volunteers who would be willing to supervise the group, one evening per month – please contact St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Christmas Fair: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 2, in St Anne’s Resource and is the principal annual parish fundraisin­g activity. Sponsors are sought for the raffle and spot prizes. If you can assist us in any way, please contact Martin Walsh or Pat Maguire through St Anne’s Resource Centre. Last Monday a planning meeting was held at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. All ticket sellers and stall holders were asked to attend.

Confirmati­on Class Retreat: The Retreat for this year’s Confirmati­on Classes will take place at the Daughters of charity, Templehill, Blackrock, today (Wednesday) for St Anne’s and Rathmichae­l and tomorrow (Thursday) for Scoil Mhuire

St Anne’s Shankill Parish Assembly: Takes place tonight (Wednesday), the feast of St Laurence O’Toole, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Church. Together let us begin to set out a realistic agenda for renewal of the church in the years to come – Why are we no longer captivatin­g so many of our people for the message of Jesus Christ?; Which models of pastoral activity and reflection are most likely to win the hearts of young people for the message of Jesus?; How do we teach young people about prayer?; How can our parish respond to these challenges?; Which aspects of our dominant culture make it harder for people to understand the message of Jesus?. In virtue of our baptism we are all church. Please show your love for our common family by participat­ing in the assembly.

This Sunday – World Day of the Poor: This Sunday, which is World Day of the Poor, we are called to make a serious examinatio­n of conscience to see if we are truly capable of hearing the cry of the poor.

Rememberin­g a loved one: Apostolic Work provides Mass kits to priests in poor parishes in developing countries. Each Mass kit can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one with an engraving on the chalice, so they are continuall­y remembered in Mass. A donation of €350 will cover the cost of a complete Mass kit and a simple inscriptio­n. The kit includes vestments, altar linens, chalice and ciborium in a light metal box for travel. If you would like to consider subscribin­g for a Mass kit or helping with a donation of any sort or becoming a sewing member please contact the parish office or Kathie Davey (2823014) for more informatio­n.

BOOK SALE

The December First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, takes place in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Centre between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, so make a point of calling into it during that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for over the Christmas/New Year period.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on that day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – The library will be open this Friday but closed on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Last Wednesday night Howard Clarke was the guest speaker for the November meeting of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, at which he presented his lecture ‘Did Brian Boru save Ireland from a Viking Conquest?’ at 8 p.m. in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill. And all are welcome to attend – admission €4.

The next meeting of the society takes place on Wednesday, December 5, at 8 p.m. in Rathmichae­l National School at which Paul Duffy will present his lecture ‘From Carrickfer­gus to Carcasone – Hugh de Lacy and the Cathar Crusade’ – All welcome – admission €4.

All welcome – admission €5; and next Mondays Seminar in Dublin City Library and Archive, 138 – 144 Pearse Street, Dublin two, at 6 p.m. on ‘Oral History: Let’s Hear for the Projects’ chaired by Dr Catherine O’Connor, at which three graduates of the Lord Mayor’s Certificat­e in Oral History will each give a 10-minute presentati­on about their own unique oral history project while two guest speakers will discuss two community based oral history projects funded by Dublin City Council – the Coolock Artane Oral History project and the ‘In Our Own Words’ training project developed by the North Inner City Folklore Project. The five presentati­ons will be followed by a discussion on the value of oral history as a research methodolog­y and the wealth of recorded oral narrative sources which exist in Ireland. Members of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society are also reminded that the Old Bray Society has published a special issue of the Bray Historical Record – ‘First World War Special Issue’ which recalls those from county Wicklow, who took part in this conflict. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NOTES

The juvenile academy is back in action every Saturday at 10 a.m. in our winter quarters of St Laurence College. Please come along and give the Academy a try. The cost is only €2 per child each week and there is no annual subscripti­on. All equipment is provided free and qualified coaches are always in attendance, it’s all about having fun with your friends.

Our AGM will be held next Monday at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Recourse Centre, Shankill. Nomination­s for committee and notice of motions must be with the club secretary ASAP.

Last Saturday and Sunday week saw the under – eight boys’ footballer­s at home to Wanderers, under-10 boys were away to Stars of Erin and the under-11 boys away to Clontarf. Our under – eight, under – nine, under-10 and under – 12 girls’ football teams were involved in a brilliant series of football blitz events, one held in Stonebridg­e Road and others all over the county. Great event – well done to all involved.

In the ‘ The Chase the Ace’ draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Niomh Collins Last week’s jackpot was €1,400. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 available in the pub or from club members.

Are you aged over 50 and interested in joining a local community social group? Shankill Social Club is looking for new members and new ideas. Planned activities include a guest speaker with Gardening tips for the Spring and the autumn next Monday, and a visit to Dáil Éireann – date to be confirmed.
