30TH ANNUAL SUPPER DANCE

In aid of St John’s Church, Laragh on Friday, November 23, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in Lynham’s Hotel, Laragh. Music by John Flood. Tickets cost €22.50, including a draw for a hamper.

HISTORICAL LECTURE

Rathdrum Historical Society to host a lecture from Chris Corlett and will take place on Monday, December 3, in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh at 8 p.m., followed by tea or coffee and festive mince pies.

Chris will discuss the monastic settlement at Glendaloug­h. The talk will take you on a tour of the majestic valley of Glendaloug­h, exploring the monuments, legends and history that make this one of the best preserved early Christian church sites anywhere in the world.

An archaeolog­ist with the National Monuments Service, Chris has written, compiled and edited many books with subject matters ranging from archaeolog­y, history, folklore and early photograph­y. A prolific writer, Chris’ books include the beautifull­y produced Wicklow’s Traditiona­l Farmhouses, Here Lyeth, The 18th Century Headstones of Wicklow and his latest book Glendaloug­h.

He is also a very frequent contributo­r to the quarterly magazine Archaeolog­y Ireland as well as a variety of national and local journals. Please note the change from the Society’s usual Rathdrum venue. There will be a charge of €3 at the door and all are welcome to what should be a most informativ­e and entertaini­ng lecture by a leading expert on Glendaloug­h.

REINDEER-MAKING WORKSHOP

Throughout the year are fullday basket making workshop where participan­ts will learn to make a traditiona­l willow basket. The workshops are relaxed and enjoyable with a focus on traditiona­l Irish basket-making techniques. Saturday and Sunday, November 24, and 25, is a twoday Reindeer-making Workshop. Saturday, December 1, is a full day basket-making. All events by local basket maker and artist, Aoife Patterson. AFTERNOON TEA DANCE

A pre-Christmas afternoon tea dance will take place in the Brockagh Centre from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 18. Music will be by the Wicklow Man. All are welcome but groups must book in advance by calling the centre at 0404 45600. There will be a small charge to cover refreshmen­ts. Donations of raffle prizes would be greatly appreciate­d.

CHRISTMAS FAIR 2018.

Once again we see the return of our very popular and successful Christmas Fair at the Brockagh Resource Centre, laragh, Glen- dalough. A terrific selection of unusual gifts, with many handmade items, giving you some great ideas for your Christmas shopping. Do all your Christmas shopping, under one roof with free parking and free admission. Come along on Sunday, December 9, making it a day out for all the family. MORNING YOGA

Louise’s yoga class will be held every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. This is a gently paced class where students learn how to align, open and strengthen the body gradually while stabilisin­g the platforms of the feet and ankles, hips and pelvis and shoulder girdle. The class begins with general and targeted warm-up sequences followed by postures (Asanas) and Vinyasa (breath-connected) sequences before final relaxation in Savasana. CHAIR YOGA

Our very popular Chair Yoga class will take place on Thursdays from 11.30 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. Chair Yoga is suitable for almost everyone and helps students find balance and calm in everyday life. The class takes students through centering and breathwork, followed by postures that let the joints move through their range of movement while seated or through use of the chair while standing. IRISH DANCING CLASSES

Irish Dancing on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Classes cater for any age over three years and all levels including absolute beginners. Registered members of An Comhdhail, fully Garda Vetted and insured. Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night all year round.
