Pupils and artists collaborate on mural

-

STUDENTS at St Mary’s & St Gerard’s National School in Enniskerry had a very warm welcome for Minister Simon Harris last week, as he officially launched their artistic creation.

Minister Harris cut the ribbon on a miro mural made by artists Brigid O’Brien and Gerlinde Kugler along with the students. They completed the work last June, brightening up a concrete wall with their colourful designs. The children made the designs on paper in their classes, with the artists then helping them continue with the creation.

The event included music and fun for everyone to enjoy. Minister Harris addressed the children and congratulated them on their wonderful work. Fr Bernard Kennedy and Cllr Joe Behan also joined the children, their teachers and principal Colette Langan to celebrate the official unveiling. The project was inspired by Spanish surrealist Joan Miró, who was fascinated by walls and loved to work in large formats.

The children, their teachers and the artists worked hard on the beautiful creation for months.
