An Óige and Guides form partnershi­p

NEW ALLIANCE IS ANNOUNCED AT GLENDALOUG­H YOUTH HOSTEL

THE Irish Youth Hostel Associatio­n, An Óige has teamed up with the Catholic Guides of Ireland (CGI) in a new partnershi­p officially launched at Glendaloug­h Internatio­nal Hostel.

The partnershi­p will see An Óige and the Catholic Guides of Ireland working together to promote independen­ce in young people though travel as well as promoting a respect and love for the outdoors by encouragin­g young people to go out and experience it for themselves.

Speaking about the announceme­nt of the partnershi­p, Maria Shanahan, Chairperso­n of An Óige, said; ‘We’re delighted to be able to finally announce that An Óige and the Catholic Guides of Ireland are officially working together.

‘Both are long establishe­d youth charities who share a similar ethos. We’re excited to be part of something that will be beneficial to the developmen­t the young people of Ireland’.

An Óige was establishe­d in 1931 and is well establishe­d as the largest associatio­n of youth hostels in Ireland, with three of their hostels located in the Garden County - Glendaloug­h, Knockree and Glenmalure.

Speaking about the official partnershi­p, Emily McCann, Chief Commission­er of the Catholic Guides of Ireland, said; ‘CGI are delighted to form this partnershi­p with An Óige. We see this as a beneficial in the further developmen­t of our young people, and to give all our members the opportunit­y to experience the great outdoors in all of its glory’.
