PRIDE OF PLACE AWARD

The community of Rathdrum was overjoyed and very proud to learn that their town won the Pride of Place Award 2018. This award is recognitio­n and reward for all those who contribute­d to Rathdrum winning the competitio­n. A huge thanks to all involved. The award is a significan­t boost to the town.

The judges’ citation ended ‘The judges can confidentl­y predict a great future for this warm and welcoming town.’.

GOLD MEDAL WINNER

Warmest congratula­tions to Mick Byrne of Parnell Athletic Club in Rathdrum on winning a gold medal for Ireland in the five nations cross – country in Wales and also led his team to win a Team Bronze medal. Well done to Mick, a legend and an inspiratio­n. Rathdrum is proud of you.

PARISH SALE OF WORK

The annual parish sale of work and auction will take place in the RDA hall on Sunday, November 25, starting at 2 p.m. On Saturday (24th) the RDA hall will be open to received items for the auction and Sale (no beds, electrical items, prams or buggies please). Raffle tickets are on sale.

CLARA VALE DINNER

The annual Clara Vale Church committee dinner dance will take place in the Glendaloug­h Hotel on Friday, December 7, at 8.30 p.m. Music by the Wicklow Man. Tickets €25 available from any Committee Member. Diary Date.

Christmas Carols will be sung in the Parish Church at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 16. Everyone welcome.

PARNELL ATHLETIC CLUB

We travelled with a small group of athletes to Adamstown County Wexford for the uneven ages Leinster Cross Country. What a great race the under-nine turned out to be with Emma Byrne second and Ella Breen fourth with under eight, Ciara Windertbot­tom not far behind. Next up was Helen Winterbott­om coming 19th in the under-11.

Great running from young Harry Kileen, Lacey Shannon under-15 and Edward Byrne. Pride of place this week must go to our own Mick Byrne on winning the over 55 autumn Internatio­nals in Swansea Wales.

The community of Rathdrum extends their sympathies to the Walsh Family Corballis Demesne on the death of Joan. Paddy, Ann and Maria Hogan, Whitesbrid­ge, on the sad passing of John and the O’Dea family, Ballysheem­ane on the passing of their mother Nancy.
