Work under way to make the cliff walk safe again

-

WORKS TO make the cliff walk safe will hopefully be complete this week, as long as adverse weather don’t set the contractor back too much.

Work is under way to secure the bank over the walk, pictured below, with netting. Heavy rain last week halted progress, with a storm due to hit this week. The cliff walk has been closed for several weeks, with serious concerns for safety after a number of landslides. Despite the closure, and signs informing walkers of the dangers, walkers have chosen to disregard the warnings and make their way along the route on foot. A contractor was appointed to assess the works and secure the area. It was estimated that there were about five tonnes of unstable rock about four metres above the path, between Raheen car park and Cliff Manor, which could come down at any time without work to make them stable.
