Wicklow quartet shine in Leinster Shield win
WICKLOW was well represented at last weekend’s Ladies Gaelic annual interprovincials at WIT Sports Campus in Waterford.
Footballers Jackie Kinch and Sarah Hogan from Tinahely were joined by Kilbride’s Claire Walsh and Clara’s Sarah Miley on the Leinster interprovincial team .
Lorna Fusciardi from Foxrock Cabinteely, although originally selected, unfortunately had a family bereavement and could not travel.
Also Dominic Leech (Newtown) and Paul Garrigan (Baltinglass) were part of the Leinster Management on the day.
Leinster qualified to play Connacht in the shield final and secured victory defeating the western province by 7-7 to 2-5.
The team, captained by Dublin’s stalwart Lyndsay Davey, played extremely well throughout and all four Wicklow players were very much to the fore not only in the final but throughout the entire tournament.
In congratulating the squad, Leinster President Dominic Leech remarked how delighted he was with the teams performance, proud to see the trophy won by the province and also to have such a great input from Wicklow.
The Wicklow players represented their clubs and county with pride and should be rightly proud of their achievement and contribution to last week’s victory
