Services of Worship for this Sunday – Advent Sunday: 8.30 a.m. – Holy Communion One; 11 a.m. – Holy Communion Two.

Classics by Candleligh­t: Returns for its ninth year at 7 p.m. this Sunday. As usual, there will be an hour of wonderful music for string quartet in the church by candleligh­t, followed by mulled wine and mince pies, included in the price of the ticket. The alcohol-free hot punch always goes down a treat and means that drivers need not miss out. As far as the musicians are concerned, in addition to Francis and Sheelagh Harte, we are lucky to have again secured the services, given freely, of David and Elaine Clark. All are present or past members of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Tickets cost €10 and can be bought from the Travel Boutique or by calling the parish office.

Taizé Evening: An evening of music, silence for reflection and readings on Wednesday, December 19, at 8 p.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church.

ST PETER’S PARISH

Confirmati­on Preparatio­n Mass: This Sunday at 11.30 a.m. We look forward to welcoming all the children and their parents/ guardians.

Crosscare annual Parish Food Appeal: The Parish Food Appeal will take place this Sunday to support the work of the Crosscare Foodbanks. Items that are most needed at this time are: toiletries and cleaning products, non-perishable food and festive foods.

St Peter’s Carol Service: Takes place in the church on Sunday, December 16, at 3 p.m.

November Altar List of the Dead: The envelopes for the November Altar list of the dead are available at the back of the church. All those whose names are listed will be remembered at Masses on the feast of All Saints, All Souls and the first Friday of each month. Please return envelopes to the sacristy or the parish office.

ST FERGAL’S PARISH

Parish Christmas Cards: Packs of assorted Parish Christmas Cards are available to purchase in the church and in the parish office. €4 for six cards. Those, who receive the cards will be remembered in the Christmas Masses being offered in the parish.

Christmas with the Voices of Bray Community Choir: In St Fergal’s Church on Sunday, December 9, at 7.30 p.m. Proceeds in aid of Bray Lakers. Admission €10. Tickets available from the parish office.

St Fergal’s Christmas Raffle – Great Prizes to be Won: First Prize – 32’ Panasonic TV with Wi Fi; second prize – Powerscour­t Golf Club Green Fees x four Ball; third prize – Limited Edition Giclée Print by Peter Growney; fourth prize – Luxury Christmas Hamper; fifth prize – six Bottles of Wine; sixth prize – three Course Dinner for two at the Parkview Hotel; and more prizes. Tickets are on sale in the church this weekend and in the parish office. €1 per ticket or book of six for €5. The draw will take place in the church after the Christmas Carol Concert on Saturday, December 22.

Christmas Mass Bouquet Cards: Are now available from the parish office and the sacristy. The intentions of those receiving these cards will be remembered at the 9.30 a.m. Mass on Wednesday, December 26.

Perpetual Eucharisti­c Adoration: As you know we are always looking for new adorers and would be very grateful for help during the night hours from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. and 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. and 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. Please contact the sacristy at 01 2723865.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group: Will have an additional drop in morning at the Villa Pacis on the first Friday of every month starting from last Friday after the 10.30 a.m. Mass for those affected by grief and loss.

Bugisi Mission Christmas Cards: Once again we have the traditiona­l Divine Word Christmas cards on sale in the Villa. In addition, this year, we have a small supply of cards from the LULU project in Mwanza, Tanzania. This is a little business project for teenage mothers and vulnerable girls. Each card is handmade with silk thread and signed by the girl who made it. They are a trifle expensive at €5 for a pack of five, but they are unique and the girls get 40 cent for each card, the LULU project gets 20 cents and our own Bugisi Mission gets 40 cents.

Lectio Divina: A prayerful reflection on the following Sundays gospel takes place in Villa Pacis every Wednesday, after 10.30 a.m. Mass.

Christmas Fair: Our Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 9, Once again we are seeking new unwanted gifts. If you would like to donate them contact Anne at 087 7772127 or drop them into the Villa Pacis.

QOP YOUTH CLUB

Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club has a ratio of seven male leaders to three female. To properly address this situation the club is seeking more female leaders to improve the gender balance. DIVING CLUB

Join Wicklow Aquanauts (Bray Divers) now and get one extra month free membership. With the club it takes two nights of lectures, two pool sessions after which the sea training be- gins. CUALANN SOCIETY

Although there is no meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society, the local history society for Bray and North Wicklow, in the Royal Hotel, Bray, during December, the society will host two morning talks in Bray libraries looking back as past Christmase­s in the town.

On Thursday, December 6, James Scannell will present ‘Christmas in Bray, 1943’ at 11.30 a.m. in Ballywaltr­im Library, Boghall Road, Bray – all welcome, admission free; while on the following day, Friday, December 7, James will present ‘Christmas in Bray, 1918’ at 11.30 a.m. in Bray Library, Eglinton Road, Bray. All welcome – admission free.

Other events which may be of interest to members and supporters of the Bray Cualann Historical Society are tonight’s 6 p.m. meeting of the Old Dublin Society in Dublin City Library and Archive, Dublin two, at which Ken Finlay will present his lecture ‘Charles Cameron – Saving the City’ The AGM will follow this lecture; tomorrow’s (Thursday) 6.30 p.m. lecture by Professor David Dickson on ‘The History of Dublin (1818) by James Whitelaw and his collaborat­ors’ in the Conference Room of Dublin City Library and Archive, 138 – 144 Pearse Street, Dublin two.
