Cliff walk re-opens to public

-

THE cliff walk has re-opened after several weeks, now that works have been done to secure the area.

Stabilisation and remedial works have now been completed in the area and all loose stone has been removed.

Access had been prohibited since the end of October due to a landslide. A further fall of rock occurred in the intervening weeks.

There were some delays to works due to scheduling of the contractor, and then very wet weather.

The area in question was around 1.5km south of Bray. Boulders came down on to the path on two occasions, with around five tonnes of unstable rock around four metres above the path.

That unstable rock could have come down at any time but has now been secured with netting and the walk was reopened last Thursday.

A portion of the walk was previously closed for a week last March due to a landslide. In that instance, a portion of the walk fell to the beach below.

While some walkers ignored warning signs during the period of closure, Wicklow County Council has thanked the majority of walkers who cooperated with the order until the area was made safe.
