EDENDERRY RFC WICKLOW RFC 10 29

LEAGUE leaders Wicklow travelled to second placed Edenderry for a crucial top of the table clash.

This was a tough away fixture played in blustery and damp conditions.

Edenderry kicked off and soon had Wicklow under pressure, scoring try after eight minutes.

After a nervy start Wicklow got into their stride. Ciara Patrick playing on the left wing put Edenderry on the back foot with a series of line hugging kicks in succession.

Going forward, Andrea Petru, who was picked for the Spanish national squad, followed suit with another great kick chase and Megan Parkinson got over for the try.

Within minutes, Wicklow got their second. Jess Schmidt, Marleyn and Amy O’Neill, drove hard at Edenderry and quick hands saw Ciara Patrick score in the corner.

Edenderry fought back and Wicklow lost a player to the sin bin in their own 22.

Edenderry also lost a player to the sin bin and had a penalty reversed under their own posts. Quick thinking and quick hands, saw Ciara Patrick get her second try.

The half-time score was 5-15 to Wicklow.

The second half saw Edenderry come out all guns blazing.

Vicki Rice put in a massive tackle and Megan Parkinson in full back mode made some great runs to telling effect.

Wicklow’s fourth try was a result of a kick ahead by Ciara Patrick.

The ball bobbled towards the line and the Edenderry defender dropped it and Erin McConnell pounced to score. The conversion was successful. Wicklow led by 5-22.

Wicklow’s last try was the result of strong running by Meagan Parkinson and and finished off by Hanna Rose. The conversion was successful.

Edenderry fought back and got over for a consolatio­n score to leave the final score reading Edenerry 10, Wicklow 29.

This was great team performanc­e and the buzz post match was palpable.

Wicklow are in a strong position to go on and win the league and the coveted promotion to Division 1.

Next up is the Metro Cup final against Railway Union on Thursday, December 20.
