Post officer aided

December 1999

-

RAIDERS who reversed their car into the door and front window of Baltinglass Post Office made off with a haul of cigarettes, sweets and PlayStation games.

The raiders then broke into the Chinese restaurant next door to the post office, but left without taking anything.

The ramming of the post office at Slaney Mall happened at 5.07 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to Gardai.

The action was also captured on the shop’s security camera.

However, the film does not show the registra- tion of the vehicle used by the intruders, who aren’t believed to be from the area.

The camera shows that one of the men in the car entered the post office and made off with the property, which had a total value of over £2,000.

The thieves did not take any postal items, such as stamps or postal orders.

According to the Gardai, the thieves then forced their way in through a window of the Chinese restaurant next door but left without taking anything.
