Wicklow RFC minis enjoy good outings against Gorey

-

Wicklow RFC’s Minis took on the might of their near neighbours, Gorey RFC, on Sunday morning (December 9).

The fixture was divided between home and away for both clubs with Wicklow’s U-9s, 11s and 12s travelling to Gorey and U-7s, 8s, 10s and U-12 girls entertaining Gorey at home in Ashtown Lane.

Wicklow’s U-9s travelled with fewer numbers than usual but still fielded three strong teams against the County Wexford club.

Each Wicklow side had three very entertaining matches. This group has made real progress this season and put on a fine display of running rugby in the winter sunshine.

Wicklow’s U-11s fielded two teams in Gorey and took to the games with gusto.

Each team had two great games displaying grit and determination against their close counterparts. The lads were in fine form for rugby and tackled and rucked to their hearts’ content with plenty of tries scored to keep the travelling supporters entertained.

Back on home turf Wicklow’s U-7s, 8s and 10s and the U-12 girls put in powerful performances.

Both Wicklow and Gorey have met on the field at all age grades and are always happy to renew old acquaintances. Cold but bright and more importantly dry conditions made for excellent rugby played in great spirits.

Next Saturday Wicklow’s Minis will descend on the Aviva Stadium in large numbers for their annual Christmas trip to watch Leinster take on Bath.

They will train for the final session before Christmas on Sunday morning.

The Mini’s Christmas party takes place in the clubhouse in the afternoon with the man in red making an appearance. Training resumes after the break on January 6.
