PAVILION PLAN AT SEA LIFE CENTRE IS OUT FOR PUBLIC CONSULTATION
DESIGNS for a Seafront Pavilion scheme in Bray around the National Sea Life centre is out for public consultation.
After the cycle scheme on the promenade was completed, Wicklow County Council commissioned an audit which found some road safety and accessibility items to be addressed around Sea Life.
The report was generally positive about the scheme, stating that it ‘represents a significant improvement in service provided for vulnerable road users on Bray Sea Front’.
However, the discontinuity of the cycle track at the National Sea Life Centre was noted as a ‘considerable inconvenience’ with cyclists being forced onto the carriageway, on occasion cycling against traffic flow, and often not returning to the cycle track, but continuing cycling on the road.
The audit recommended a public realm improvement scheme around the centre to link existing pedestrian and cycling facilities to the north and south, to rationalise parking, create a space for spill out activity, and well positioned cycle parking.
The Seafront Pavilion Scheme proposes to create a high-quality civic space in front of Sea Live that will create a hub of activity.
The scheme will include: widened pedestrian areas using new paving materials, a cycle track, new seating, trees and planters, and new public lighting.
The space will have the potential for outdoor café seating and hosting public events.
