Cllr Walsh and Elaine Willis to run in Greystones

-

FIANNA Fáil has selected Cllr Gerry Walsh and first-time nominee Elaine Willis to contest the local elections in Greystones next year.

The two were confirmed at the party’s selection convention in the Glenview Hotel recently.

‘Elaine and Gerry exemplify what it means to be a true servant to the community,’ said Fianna Fáil health spokesman Stephen Donnelly

‘As the former Garda Sergeant in charge of Greystones Garda station, Gerry Walsh has had 31 years in public service. Over that time he’s been a crucial part of the Joint Policing Committee and spearheaded initiatives to promote business and tourism in the town. He also has a keen interest in sport with a long-standing association with the GAA,’ said Deputy Donnelly.

‘Elaine Willis, many people will know as my constituency manager,’ said the TD. ‘We’ve worked together since 2012 and she’s helped innumerable people who’ve come to my office. Whether constituents are dealing with local issues like roads and traffic, or national problems like housing, health and education, Elaine ensures no one leaves until she’s given them personal attention. She also has an incredible depth of knowledge about the county. If it’s happening in Wicklow, Elaine knows about it. We call her “human Google”. And there’s a very good reason for that; she has been living and working in the Kilcoole/Greystones area for over 35 years. Elaine spent eight years volunteering with the local Chamber of Commerce and has been involved with numerous community projects over the years.’

He said that he is particularly happy that the party is able to offer voters a female candidate in the Greystones areas.

‘Indeed, we’ve achieved an excellent gender balance with one male and one female candidate. And needless to say, both nominations are solely on merit,’ said Deputy Donnelly.
