Over €1.6m in community funding last year

OVER €1.6 million was shared among 137 individual projects last year through the seven community funding schemes administer­ed by Wicklow County Council.

The CLAR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanai­s) programme delivered €175,000 to 12 projects, while the Town and Village programme provided funding of €525,000 to seven projects. The Outdoor Recreation Infrastruc­ture Scheme provided a further €438,000 to seven projects and the Healthy Ireland Initiative assisted 14 projects with funding of €112,100. The New Community Enhancemen­t programme delivered €350,530 to 91 groups while a Festival Funding programme assisted six festivals in the county.

Acknowledg­ing this investment in the county, Cllr Pat Vance, cathaoirle­ach of Wicklow County Council, paid tribute to the staff in the Community, Cultural and Social Developmen­t directorat­e in the council and to Minister for Rural and Community Developmen­t Michael Ring and his officials. Councillor Vance said that these projects, spread across different communitie­s throughout the county, will significan­tly enhance a large number of towns and villages and he congratula­ted all those involved in all the projects.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, added his own congratula­tions to everyone involved in the projects and said that council staff will continue to work in partnershi­p with all groups in the county to advance more projects in 2019.
