New Year’s Eve fire caused by firework
WICKLOW Fire Services didn’t have to wait long for their first call out of the New Year after responding to a stray firework just minutes into 2019.
A group of revellers were celebrating the New Year by launching some fireworks at the Murrough in Wicklow town. One of the fire works went off course and ended up settling in some overgrowth, igniting some gorse in the process.
‘ To be fair it was a pure accident,’ said a spokesperson for Wicklow Fire Services. ‘ The fireworks were being launched out toward the sea but one of them took a strange trajectory and ended up flying off course. The group did the right thing and contacted us straight away. It could have easily happened to anyone. It wasn’t a major deal and everything was soon under control’.
