1REMEMBERING THE LEGENDS: The spectacular Remembering the Legends show is on it’s way to Bray this Friday. The three-hour spectacular features the total Joe Dolan Show, as it was, plus tributes to the stars of yesteryear, including Brendan O’Brien, Sean Dunphy, Butch Moore, Tom Dunphy, Val Doonican and Doc Carroll, plus special guests. Showtours, which promoted Joe Dolan since 1982 is behind this show, delighted with its success and believes it compares favourably with the Joe shows which captivated audiences down the years. The show will take place at the Royal Hotel in Bray this Friday, January 11, with doors opening at 8 p.m. Tickets cost €30 and are available by calling 01 2862935.
2DELGANY DRAMATIC SOCIETY: Delgany Dramatic Society will present ‘The Virtusous Burglar’ and ‘The Patient’ at 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, in the Old Schoolhouse. This will be a fundraiser for Delgany Tidy Towns. Tickets cost €12 and €10 and will be available on the door.
3THE LEGEND OF LUKE KELLY: Chris Kavanagh’s ‘The Legend of Luke Kelly’ will take place at Mermaid Arts Centre on Saturday, January 12, at 8 p.m. Dublin singer, songwriter and multiinstrumentalist Chris Kavanagh was raised on Irish music and has been singing Irish folk songs since he was three years old. His performances capture the depth and passion of the great man he was so heavily influenced by. Chris released his own album of original material, ‘Voice Of The People’, in 2011 and shortly afterwards performed with The Dubliners for two weeks on their German tour. Tickets are €20 and are available from the Mermaid.
4FAR FLUNG TRIO: On Saturday, January 12, Far Flung Trio will perform Peter and the Wolf at 3 p.m. before holding their own gig at 8 p.m. in the Whale Theatre. Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf is a piece that appealed to the trio primarily because of the storytelling element – the narration will be undertaken by the musicians while playing. The performance is about 60 minutes. The performance will include some educational introduction to the music and the instruments (violin, accordion and double-bass) and also some time for questions and answers with the artists. The repertoire includes Bizet’s Carmen, Rossini’s Barber of Seville, jazzy tunes by Gerswhin and an original work by Irish jazz giant Ronan Guilfoyle. 5MANOVERBOARD – A VOLVO ROUND IRELAND STORY: Kenneth Rumbal, John White and other crew members of the highly competitive J109 ‘Jedi’ recount the moment John went overboard south west of the Blasket Islands while competing in the 2018 Round Ireland. Their talk takes place at Wicklow Sailing Club on Saturday, January 12 at 7.30 p.m. Donations can be made to the Wicklow Hospice. Food and refreshments will be served at 6.30 p.m.
6PARK RUN: A 5k Park Run takes place at Avondale House ad Forest Park this Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. First timers can register at www.parkrun.ie to get your barcode. Bring it with you for the parkrun briefing at 9.20 a.m. in front of Avondale House. Parkrun is for everyone including walkers, babes in buggies, doggies on leads. No one finishes last at parkrun and every ability is welcome. Come join in for a run a jog or just to walk the dog.
7OPERATION TRANSFORMATION WALK: The Nationwide Operation Transformation Walks are taking place in three locations in County Wicklow on Saturday 12th January 2019. They are as follows: McGreals Primary Care Centre Blessington; Baltinglass GAA Club; Bray Seafront (Bandstand). All walks start at 11am and just turn up on the day.
