GUN ATTACK VICTIM NOW RECOVERING
BRAY MAN IS RECOVERING AFTER HE WAS SHOT IN THE TORSO AND LEG
A BRAY man is recovering after being shot a number of times last Wednesday night.
Stephen Somers (27) was shot in the torso and in the leg on at around 8.45 p.m. on Wednesday at St Laurence’s Terrace. Gardaí have said that they have not established a motive for the attack.
Investigators are on the ground carrying out inquiries, according to Superintendent Pat Ward of Bray Garda Station.
A woman at the scene of the shooting assisted Mr Somers while waiting for paramedics to arrive. He was rushed to hospital, where he received treatment for the gunshot wounds.
Gardaí recovered the weapon at the scene. They urge anyone who saw or heard anything to call Bray Garda Station at 01 6665300.

A gunman opened fire at Mr Somers at St Laurence’s Terrace at around 8.45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, and made off on foot.
Superintendent Pat Ward of Bray Garda Station said that they still have not established a motive for the shooting. ‘ This is something, obviously, that is central to our investigation,’ said Supt Ward.
Mr Somers, who is from the Oldcourt area, was the passenger in a car parked at the scene. A woman who was in the driver’s seat raised the alarm and applied pressure to the injured man’s wounds.
He was rushed to hospital and gardai began to examine the scene. The gun was recovered near the site of the shooting and will be forensically examined.
Gardai also undertook a detailed search of the vicinity, including drains, traffic cones and gardens on the road.
A search of the area on Thursday night included the deployment of the garda helicopter.
Mr Somers’ previous convictions at a local level include disorderly conduct. It is understood he was also convicted of a more serious offence in the Dublin courts some years ago.
Deputy John Brady said that the shooting last Wednesday evening has been roundly condemned in the strongest possible terms by the local community. ‘ This shooting took place in a highly populated part of the town that has already seen much grief in the recent past, as the shooting took place adjacent to where our two brave fire fighters lost their lives,’ said Deputy Brady.
‘ This shooting, like the previous fatal shooting in Bray Boxing Club, does not represent what Bray stands for, or the strong community in the town. That’s why, as a community, we stand united in our condemnation of the violence,’ said Deputy Brady. ‘It will be vital in the days and weeks ahead for the Justice Minister to continue resourcing An Garda Síochána and provide any additional resources needed to apprehend those responsible and secure convictions.’
He said that a dark cloud has been hanging over Bray since the fatal shooting in Bray Boxing club last June.
‘ These are isolated incidents that don’t represent the town,’ said the TD. ‘We must continue to build on the strong community in Bray and all its positives.’
Supt Ward appealed to any witnesses to come forward, particularly those who may have been in the area.
‘Even if you didn’t see anything but heard gunshots, please get in touch,’ he said.
