Funding schemes to protect built heritage

-

OWNERS of protected structures and structures within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs) are being urged to apply for two funding schemes that will close in the coming weeks.

The Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) and the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) are both operated by the Department of Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht.

Sixty-thousand euro has been allocated to County Wicklow under the BHIS and individual project supports of between €2,500 and €15,000 will be awarded. There will be a match funding require- ment of five per cent from owners for eligible projects.

The primary focus of the HSF is on the conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.

It is split into two streams. Stream one offers grants of €15,000 to €50,000 and is aimed at essential repairs and smaller capital works for the refurbishment and conservation of heritage structures.

Stream two offers a small number of grants of between €50,000 and €200,000 for larger enhancement, refurbishment or reuse projects involving heritage struc- tures, where a clear community or public benefit has been demonstrated.

Application forms are available at www.wicklow.ie/Living/News-Events/ conservation-grants-for-protected-structures-2019 or from the Wicklow County Council Planning Office. Completed applications should to be clearly marked either BHIS/HSF and returned by email to planadmin@wicklowcoco.ie or by post to Planning Section, Wicklow County Council, County Buildings, Wicklow town.

The closing date for BHIS is Friday, February 25, while the closing date for HSF is January 31.
