FANTASTIC LINE-UP OF ONE-ACT PLAYS

THE LAUNCH of the 42nd Bray One Act Drama Festival took place last Thursday night in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray. Festival director William Mansfield was there to announce the adjudicato­r for the festival this year, welcoming back a popular favourite, Chrissie Poulter. Representa­tives from the participat­ing groups and the festival patrons were in attendance. All proceeds from the festival go to local charities and this year, the festival committee was delighted to announce that Bray Women’s Refuge and Lakers are the chosen charities.

Opening what promises to be another successful festival, William commented that he looks forward to a week of comedy, drama and entertainm­ent and thanked the support of the local community and patrons who make the Bray One Act one of the best festivals on the drama circuit.

The festival runs from Tuesday, January 22, to Saturday, January 26, at Mermaid Arts Centre, with three one-act plays on each night, starting at 7.30 p.m. For tickets, go to mermaidart­s-centre. ie or call 01 2724030.

Tuesday, January 22, is youth drama night, with St Gerard’s School Dramatic Society performing The Edelweiss Pirates. Bray School of Speech and Drama present Girls Like that, and East Glendaloug­h School will present Audience.

On Wednesday, January 23, it’s The Flattering Word with Balally Players; The Virtuous Burglar presented by Delgany Dramatic Society, and The Syndicate, presented by Delgany ICA Drama.

On Thursday, January 24, Delgany Drama Society present Gosforth’s Fete. Mel Ryan Adult Drama Group will perform A Change of Lock, and Square One Theatre Group present A Different Way to Die.

On Friday, January 25, it’s Laundry and Bourban with Lucan Drama; Ballinteer Drama’s Oedipus Conflict, and In Room Five Hundred and Four presented by St Patrick’s Dramatic Society, Dalkey.

On Saturday, January 26, Ashford ICA will perform Towpath, followed by Late Entry performed by Bray Arts Drama Group.
