The club sends its condolences to the Kearney family on the passing of Club President Joe Kearney.

Joe was a great GAA man who was well known and respected throughout the county. A duel player in his day Joe was centre half forward on the last Rathnew team to win a Senior hurling championship in 1950 and was midfield on the first Wicklow team to win a Leinster championship beating Westmeath in the Leinster Junior hurling championship final in 1954.

He was unlucky not to win a Senior football championship with Rathnew, losing finals in 1953 and 1959. Joe was also a well-respected referee in the 50s and 60s while having to cycle his bike to the games. Joe will be a big loss to the village. May he rest in peace.
