NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

The new WDSL season won’t be up and running till the end of February. However, there will be Futsal for some of our teams from the beginning of Feb. Our Developmen­t Squad will be back training after the festive break on Saturday, January 19, in the community centre 10.11 a.m. In the coming weeks we will be announcing details regardsFAI­NET, Soccer Sisters Programme, Presentati­on Day and AGM the WDSL AGM will take place tomorrow evening (Thursday, January 17) in Rathnew starting at7.15 p.m. It should be a short meeting as there are no motions up for discussion.

Regards the Futsal the dates and venues for action are as follows: Saturday, February 2, Aughrim 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Newtown midday to 4 p.m.; Sunday, February 3, Aughrim 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, February 9, Aughrim 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Newtown midday to 4 p.m.; Sunday, February 10, Newtown 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, February 16, Aughrim 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Newtown midday to 4 p.m. (further details to follow)

We have two players from the club celebratin­g a birthday in the coming week and they are Scott McKenna from the under-12s and Aaron Cawley from the under-13s. Happy birthday to both players from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

Our second Last Man Standing competitio­n of the season will start back very soon (date tbc) so if you would like to take part please let any of our committee members or coaches know and they will fill you in with all the informatio­n you require.

On a sadder note the club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Esther Mitchel-Byrne (Kilcoole) who sadly passed away recently. May she rest in peace.

BREAKFAST CLUB

The Breakfast Club is open to all children attending Newtownmou­ntkennedy Primary School Monday to Friday 7.30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in room six of the Community Centre. Parents who are commuting early mornings drop their children in and children can avail of breakfast before school starts. Junior block students will be escorted over to their lines for 9 a.m. and senior block students will be escorted through car park to make their way up to their lines.

We have a selection of toys, games and puzzles to occupy children after breakfast and before school starts..for more informatio­n about it contact the community centre or call 086 3224443.

GAA CLUB NEWS

The Newtown ladies AGM takes place tonight (Wednesday the 16th at 8 p.m.).

Newtown GAA are coming on board with Operation Transforma­tion and the GAA for Ireland Lights Up. Every Thursday from January 17 to February 21 our club will be open and lit up for you, your family and friends to come and walk from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. We want everyone to come and join for Ireland Lights Up 2019. All are welcome to come to this event.

The Newtown AGM took place last week, positions for the 2019 season are chairman Seán Tiernan, James Kelly (treasurer), Eoin O’Riordan (club secretary), Daire Nolan (vice-chairman). We wish all the very best of luck in their roles and look forward to working together for the coming year for the benefit of the club.

Newtown appointed senior manager Damien Gilligan and Ciaran McGuirl (coach/selector) last week, the Newtown seniors are back training in advance of the start of the season. Next.

week training will be 7.30 Tuesday and Thursday. All players born from 2001 or before are eligible to play.

There will be both a senior and Junior B team entering league and championsh­ip this year.

With all the developmen­ts in the town we welcome any new members to the club. Juvenile and ladies’ football will be starting back soon too.

Newtowns GAA presentati­on banquet will take place in the Parkview Hotel on Saturday, January 26, at 7.30 PM Dinner at 8 p.m. Entertainm­ent is by Men in Black. Tickets are priced at €35 each and are available from any committee member or the post office. It promises to be a great night so get your tickets early.

YOGA CLASSES

The next term of Yoga Classes is starting on Wednesdays January 9 6 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Space behind the Corner House Village Practice. This class is suitable for all levels of experience and beginners are very welcome. Cost: €65 for six class or €15 drop in. Reduced rates are possible also. Booking is essential. MINDFULNES­S CLASSES

Our next three Week Mindfulnes­s Course is starting on Monday, January 14, 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. This Course will specifical­ly teach Mindfulnes­s Skills for managing Stress and Anxiety.
