First meeting of environmental network
THE inaugural meeting of the North Wicklow Environmental Network (NWEN) will take place at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, at the function room in the Martello.
This is a public meeting and anyone interested in the network, founded by Bray Tidy Towns, is invited to attend.
The group’s goal is to bring together groups businesses and individuals with a com- mon agenda, including a broad range of environmental issues. This could be everything from wildlife conservation and waste reduction to climate change.
Irish Environmental Network is a is an umbrella network that works to support environmental NGOs through access to funding and services.
It consists of environmental NGOs that carry out their work through practical conservation work, campaigning, lobbying and raising public awareness of environmental and conservation needs.
It is proposed that the North Wicklow group would be a local branch attached to the national parent body. There are similar groups in Dun Laoghaire and Dublin.
Details around the role of the group will be up to the steering committee. As a principal it would have an environmental and conservation bias and support and develop the 17 sustainable development goals, as set out in the European Enfironment Bureau.
It will provide a central body for groups to discuss how best to achieve these goals with each other’s support.
At the meeting, attendees will elect a chairperson, secretary and steering committee.
