MAN AND BALL!

Massive games for county sides this weekend

-

IT’S a crunch weekend for Wicklow county sides with key games for the men’s footballers and hurlers and ladies footballers while the camogie side will play in the first game of another double header in Aughrim this Sunday.

James Kelly’s Wicklow ladies side will welcome Kildare to Dunlavin on Saturday afternoon where they will look to follow on from their fantastic victory over Down in their last game.

The Lilywhites side opened up their league campaign with a narrow victory over Longford on February 2 before falling to Roscommon the last day out by 2-12 to 2-10, leaving them and Wicklow in a very similar position apart from score difference.

Wicklow’s adult camogie team have returned to competition this season and realised the job of work at hand last weekend in Roscommon when they were well beaten by the home side. This weekend they welcome Clare to Aughrim for a noon throw in and a sizable home support would be most welcome.

After that game, Eamonn Scallan’s Senior hurlers will take on Kildare in what is a massive game in terms of league promotion hopes. Wicklow must win on Sunday.

At the same time as that game is getting underway, John Evans’ Senior footballers will be starting their battle with high-flying Derry in Watty Graham Park.

Derry and Leitrim sit atop Division 4 with three wins from three with Wicklow and Limerick close behind on four points and if Wicklow can take anything from this clash it could open up the race for promotion big time.

Wicklow enjoyed a superb victory away to Waterford in their opener before slipping to an unfortunate defeat at home to Leitrim in the second game.

Their excellent victory over Limerick followed and after a round of club league games last weekend, the footballers will travel in confidence that they can topple Derry.
