Scott storms home in 60-meter sprint

-

MOLLY SCOTT stormed to a double medal success in the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown on Sunday last.

19-year-old Molly’s career has spawned such huge success despite her tender years for she was part of the Irish Women’s 4 x100m relay which took gold at the World U-20 Championships in Tampere last July.

Having shown her talent as part of a remarkable team, Molly continued her progress through hard work and dedication, and in the space of few hours she once again demonstrated her talents in taking gold and silver medals in Abbotstown.

On the surface, her success has come as no surprise for she is one of the real under-age talents that has come through the Irish athletics system which promises so much for the future.

Racing out of the SLOT Club in Carlow, Molly showed a remarkable turn of speed when managing the situation against more experienced opponents to race to a remarkable victory, in the 60 meters sprint, taking the gold medal in the process. Molly had got her race spot on and her sparkling run did not go un-noticed by experienced observers.

In less than two hours, Molly was once again back on the podium, having put her earlier success behind her, she once again turned in another sparkling run before being edged out into second place in the 60m hurdles, but she could feel well satisfied with her run in a really competitive race.

Molly, a former student of Scoil Chonglais in Baltinglass, lives in Coolmanagh, Hacketstown, and trains out of the SLOT club in Carlow town, a club that has produced so many sparkling athletes.

This was a further step for Molly towards international recognition for she was later selected on the Irish team for the European Senior Indoor Championships in Glasgown next month.

Molly, who is studying Law at ITCarlow, also enjoyed success a week earlier when she won both the 60 and 60m hurdles at the Irish University championships.

Now looking ahead to the European Indoor Championships, Molly, who will be coming up against seasoned and experienced competitors, will look on this latest venture as a huge experience in progressing her athletics career.
