Footbridge needed at Cheshire Home

February 2004

-

WICKLOW County Council will look into providing a footbridge at Shillelagh’s Cheshire Home, after prompting from Cllr Pat Doran. During Monday’s meeting, Cllr Doran said the footbridge is a matter of urgency. Cheshire Home caters for people with disabilities who are forced to cross over a humpback bridge without any footpath whenever they want to head into the town centre. ‘ The bridge is so narrow that only one vehicle can use it at a time. It is a highly dangerous situation as people can’t look over the humpback to see if there is any oncoming traffic,’ said Cllr Doran. In particular, he felt it was putting the lives of wheelchair users in jeopardy. The bridge is also situated near to Kerry Foods, which employs over 1,000 people. The narrow humpback bridge is regularly used by large vehicles.
