Hitchhiker(18) escapesattacker

February 1983

-

AN 18-year-old student from Bray had a ‘miracle escape’ over the weekend when she fought off an attempted rape in the Greystones area. The girl was badly assaulted but eventually escaped in the incident, which occurred after she hitched a lift from Bray to Greystones at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Local gardai are investigating the matter and have warned other girls against hitching lifts from strangers. A knife which was used in the incident near Delgany Golf Club has been recovered and is being analysed by garda forensic experts.

The gardai are also working on a description from the man which they received from the girl. The girl described her ordeal in which she fought off the man, who was armed with a knife, rope and pillow during the struggle in the car. The man drove to a flyover under the dual-carraigeway. The struggle lasted 15 minutes.
