ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

St Anne’s Parish Pastoral Council: Ideas and suggestion­s for the PPC to consider at their March meeting can be left into the parish office or in the Suggestion Box at the back of the church.

Support Network: A Support Network for Separated and Divorced People has been set up and is open to people of any faith denominati­on. The next meeting is this coming Tuesday at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. All are welcome to contact us by texting 087 3646067 or by emailing us at listeninge­ar14@gmail. com. Farewell to Rev’d Canon Fred Appelbe: Tomorrow night (Thursday) the parish of St Anne’s will bid a fond farewell to our good neighbour Rev’d Canon Fred Applebe as he will retire from Ministry in Rathmichae­l Parish at the end of the month. He has always been a very good friend to us in St Anne’s and we will truly miss his presence in Shankill. We would like to invite you all to join us in St Anne’s Resource Centre at 8 p.m. for some light refreshmen­ts, as we wish him all the best for his retirement.

Film Night: This Friday night the February Film Night takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre at 7.30 p.m. when the film being screened will be the MGM production of ‘Ben-Hur’, directed by William Wyler, starring Charlton Heston, Stephen Boyd, and Jack Hawkins. The film won 11 Oscars including one for Best Actor. All welcome – admission free.

Holy Hour for Vocations this Friday after 10 a.m. Mass: We invite you to join with the Pallottine Union of Catholic Apostolate to pray for vocations to the priest hood and religious life.

Child Safeguardi­ng: Please note there will be an informatio­n session for all ministers and volunteers who have not yet attended one on Friday at 11.40 a.m. in St Resource Centre. We kindly ask all involved in the parish as ministers, and volunteers and also all parents whose child is involved in parish activities to read and be aware of the child safeguardi­ng policy which is available on our parish website, the notice boards in the church, the sacristy and St Anne’s Resource Centre. This policy includes our code of conduct and anti-bullying guidelines. There is informatio­n for how any concerns regarding child safeguardi­ng may be reported. Should you have any comments or queries on any item in the policy, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Elaine Hogan in the parish office. A copy of the book titled ‘Child Safeguardi­ng in the Archdioces­e of Dublin: Statement, Reporting Procedures and Good Practice Guidelines 2018’ is available on the notice board in St Anne’s Resource Centre, the church, and the sacristy.

Ministry – St Anne’s Parish: We would like to invite you to join a Ministry in our parish. You would be welcome to participat­e in the life of our parish as a reader, collector, member of the Welcome Team, Hospitalit­y Team, choir, Altar Society. At present, we need people to help with collecting the baskets during Mass. You may wish to commit one year to the Ministry or maybe longer but know that your participat­ion would be greatly appreciate­d and you will inspire others to help in our parish. If you are interested, please contact our parish office to arrange Garda Vetting.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: The Bethany Bereavemen­t Group operates a Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m. This Drop-In is held in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the first Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary Ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

BOOK SALE

The March First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, on Saturday, March 2, so make a point of calling into it during that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up great reading material from the wide selection to choose from.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on that day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The parents and Toddler Group meets on Mondays from 10.30 a.m. to midday – all welcome. Musical parent and toddler sessions with Music Generation dlr for the 0-3 age group takes place on Mondays February 25 and March 25 from 10.30 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. Booking required. The next meeting of the Book Club takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, Historical Society.

Patrick Salmon will be the guest presenter for the Wednesday, March 6, 8 p.m. meeting of the of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, at which he will recall ‘The Lost Village of Milltown’ – all welcome – admission €5. Those wishing to join the Rathmichae­l Historical Society can do at this meeting while members are reminded that annual membership subscripti­ons for 2019 fell due on January 1 and can be renewed at this meeting.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NOTES

The juvenile Academy s is back in action every Saturday at 10 a.m. indoors in St Laurence College. Why not give the Academy a try the coaches are ready and the equipment is waiting and ready to be used the cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on.

Last Sunday week, eight of our girls from the under-13 team took part in the Dublin Developmen­t Squad trials in Raheny. All the girls played brilliantl­y and more than held their own right across every position. Well done, all.

Adult ladies’ team had a pre-season match against Naomh Olaf in which several new players made their debut and Alice Wainwright got player of the match.

Operation Transforma­tion walking group meets on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at St Anne’s Church. Please come along the group is open to both members and non-members alike. Bring a Hi – Vis top. Many thanks to Fr John and the parish committee for the use of the church grounds.

In the ‘Chase the Ace’ draw last Sunday week night in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Stephan Spain. Last week’s jackpot was €1,850. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 and are available from club members or in the pub.
