A celebration of Jade McCann held in aid of Blackrock Hospice
THE friends and family of Jade McCann, and people from the community of Greystones, were among those to attend a special evening in Greystones last weekend in her memory.
‘Celebrating Jade’ took place in Greystones Rugby Club on Saturday night. The event was organised by Sharon Felton, who arranged fundraising events throughout Jade’s illness.
The proceeds from last weekend will go to Blackrock Hospice, where Jade passed away so peacefully. Her family have said that they will be eternally grateful for the level of care she received from the wonderful people at the hospice, with everyone from nursing staff and doctors, to catering and cleaning staff, having looked after her with such love and dedication.
John Connors and members of the Cluster Fox Films team attended the event, having finished their documentary about the young Greystones woman who lost her battle with a rare form of cancer.
According to the filmmakers, it’s a film that highlights the importance of family and real social connection. The film will be shown in February, with further details to follow.
The documentary explores the perspective of the McCann family and the diagnosis of terminal cancer that rattled the whole family. This film charters the journey of a father and daughter’s struggle in living with cancer, whilst choosing to fight the disease on their own terms.
On Saturday in the Ruby Club, photos of Jade were placed on each table, along with fairy lights and other decorations. There were gold balloons spelling her name, and some of the ladies had her lovely face printed on their t-shirts.
Musician Ger Vickers gave a fantastic performance of live music, and there was a raffle with many generously donated prizes.
