Theme of community lunch was children, young people and family
THE 10th annual One Book, One Community literacy initiative was launched at Bray Area Partnership’s Community Lunch in Bray last Monday. The chosen book for 2020 is ‘Greta’s Story’ by Valentina Camerini, which tells the inspiring story of ‘ the schoolgirl who went on strike to save the planet’.
The idea of One Book, One Community is that children and young people in local schools all read the same book, and then take part in reading and creating story packs with parents, and fun events such as a community quiz. Each participant gets a copy of the book to take home for family reading, while resource packs are also available. The initiative is run by Home School Community Liaison Officers in Ravenswell NS, St. Kilian’s CS, Newtownmountkennedy NS, St Peter’s NS and St Fergal’s NS, with the sponsorship and support of
Bray Area Partnership (BAP), Bray Adult Learning Centre and St. Kilian’s JCSP Library.
The theme of the BAP Community Lunch this year was Children, Young People and Families and the more than 100 people who attended also got the chance to browse stands from community groups and services that offer supports in these areas. BAP Community Lunches provide a chance for people from local communities, community groups, local agencies and elected representatives to network and create links that lead to more effective social inclusion work in the local area.
This work is funded under BAP’s Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme, which is funded by the Irish Government through the Department of Rural and Community Development and co-funded by the European Social Fund under the Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning.
