BASKETBALL FINAL WIN

Huge congratula­tions to the CCA Boys Senior Basketball team who won the Dublin League Final on Thursday, December 12, in very dramatic circumstan­ces.

CCA were up against Balbriggan Community College and with only a few seconds left, they scored the final basket to win by the closest of margins.

The CCA team will now face Tyndall College, Carlow in the semi-final of the Leinster Cup.

This is a remarkable achievemen­t by coach Mr Creavin and the entire senior basketball team. We now wish them all the very best of luck in their next big match.

CCA CHRISTMAS MARKET

On Saturday, December 7, the annual CCA Christmas Market took place, where TY and First-Year students got the opportunit­y to sell their handcrafte­d products to the local community.

Students sold their bespoke crafts to the Christmas shoppers from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and some wonderful bargains and specialise­d Christmas gifts were purchased throughout the morning.

Santa also made a special visit to CCA on the day, and there were some tasty festive treats available for the hungry shoppers.

Thanks to everyone who was involved in the organisati­on of this event and well done to the students who made some wonderful craft gifts this year.

CCA FASHION SHOW

The CCA Fashion Show took place on the evening of Thursday, December 5, in CCA the parents’ council organised this fun event where our wonderful models took to the catwalk sporting the latest fashion.

The music students also entertaine­d the guests with a miscellany of Christmas favourites and refreshmen­ts were served throughout the evening.

To the staff, parents and students who participat­ed and to everyone who supported the show, a very big thank you.

CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE

The CCA musical choir joined our friends in Kilcoole Primary School with a beautiful evening’s performanc­e of some favourite Christmas songs on Tuesday, December 10.

The concert was held in St Anthony’s Chuch, Kilcoole and there was a great turnout by our local community who enjoyed the music. Some of the songs the choir sang included, ‘When a child was Born’ ‘Come all ye Faithful’ and ‘Silent Night.’.

Thanks to Ms Armstrong, the CCA music students and the teachers and students from Kilcoole Primary school who were all in fine voice. A great evening was had by all.

TY SIGN LANGUAGE CLASS

On Thursday, December 12, the Transition Year Sign Language students signed to the famous Christmas hit ‘Do They Know it’s Christmas.’.

The choir also performed a number of festive songs for the school. Thanks to all the students involved in this Christmas musical performanc­e.

1ST YEAR CHRISTMAS SERVICE

The First year Christmas service took place on Thursday, December 12, in the GP Area where all First year students attended a very enjoyable service.

There were some Christmas themed readings from students, Year Head Mr Maher, Vice Principal Ms Coleman and each of the five class tutors.

Class captains presented the symbolic gifts from each class group and the CCA choir sang a variety of Christmas songs which were led by First year music students.

A big thankyou to Ms Leydon for organising this special event and to Ms Armstrong for all the work with the CCA choir who have had a very busy last few weeks.

ART TRIP

Leaving Cert Art students visited Newgrange and the National Museum of Ireland last week as part of their research for their History of art studies.

Newgrange is located in the Boyne Valley in Co Meath and is one of the finest examples of a Prehistori­c Passage Grave in the world, dating back to 3200BC. As part of their research the CCA students studied the architectu­re of the Passage Grave, learned about how it was constructe­d and studied the Neolithic art which is to be found at the tomb.

Thanks to the Art Department for organising this trip.

GIRLS RUGBY BLITZ

CCA Junior and senior students competed in the South East Rugby Blitz which took place in Greystones Rugby Club on Thursday, December 12.

Some of the other schools competing in the blitz included St David’s, Coláiste Raithín and East Glendaloug­h.

Thanks to Leinster Rugby and to Mr Duffy, who organised this event and trained the girls.

GEOGRAPHY TRIP

The sixth year students visited Kippure Estate on Monday, December 8, where they did some intensive research on their investigat­ive field trip as part of the LC Geography course.

Despite the cold, the students thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thanks to the Geography Department for organising this trip.

‘WINTER OLYMPICS’

The Peer mentors organised a Christmas themed ‘winter Olympics’ for the First-Year students on Monday, December 8.

There were several fun events for the students to get involved in and each tutor group competed in the winter Olympic events throughout the morning.

A big thank you to the Peer Mentors for organising this event and for all the work they have put in with the First-Year students since September. Thanks also to Mr Blake for supporting the Peer mentors with the work they do.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Well done to all our students of the month for November and all a big thank you to all the students who performed at our Christmas themed assemblies all through the week.
