ROUNDWOOD DUATHLON

The Roundwood Fun Duathlon will take place on Friday, December 27, generously sponsored by Kavanagh’s Vartry House. This community event will provide a great opportunit­y for folk to shake off the Christmas cobwebs and test the new bikes that Santa brought while raising much needed funds for Roundwood Cancer Support Group.

The route will consist of a five mile cycle and a one mile run taking in some of the Vartry Reservoirs trails. For families and those of a less competitiv­e nature, there is a shorter walk which will be entirely on footpaths or on the Vartry trails.

Refreshmen­ts, spot prizes in and a great line up of entertainm­ent is planned after all that exercise in Kavanagh’s Vartry House. A fun afternoon for all the family is guaranteed. Registrati­on from 1.30 p.m. at Kavanagh’s with a race start time of 2 p.m.

LUNCH CLUB

The Christmas Active Retirement lunch will take place on Friday, December 20, in the Roundwood Inn. Please contact Molly or May to book. friends and neighbours to join us in Calary Church for the annual Candleligh­t Carol Service, which will take place on Friday, December 20, at 7.30 p.m., followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the church room. No booking is required and there is no fee, although there will be a voluntary collection near the end of the service, the proceeds of which will go to Simon, which helps young people tackle homelessne­ss, and Tiglin, which assists people to deal with different forms of addiction. The service is a collection of seasonal readings and well known carols for everyone to join in. There will also be a carol sung by Calary’s own Pop Up Choir.

ROUNDWOOD DANCE

There will be a dance in Roundwood Parish Centre on Friday, December 20, with music by the Wicklow Man. All are welcome.

SUNSHINE FITNESS

Sunshine Fitness will be starting ‘Baby and Me’, ‘Golden Oldies’ (for aged 65+) and ‘Curvy Whirlies ‘ (for plus size women) fitness classes in the parish hall from September 17 Please contact Caitríona at 087 6035780 for more informatio­n.

WALKING GROUP

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7 p.m. this Wednesday at the Coach House car park. All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour.

WHIST

The next whist will be this Wednesday, December 18, in the Parish Centre.

LOTTO

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. The numbers drawn were 8, 19, 23 and 27 There were two match-three winners, Brendan and Fiona and Pat McDonnell. Next week’s jackpot will be €18,100.

SET DANCING

Our weekly set dancing sessions continue in Kavanagh’s Lounge on Thursday nights. All are always welcome – whether you have ever or never danced before Session starts at 8.30 till 10.30 and cost is still only €5 for a goodnight of exercise.

ROUNDWOOD CANCER SUPPORT

The Roundwood Cancer Support centre is now up and running and is open in the Parish Centre on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. and they are currently looking for volunteers if you could spare some time in your week it would be greatly appreciate­d.
