Sadness at death of ‘inspiring’ and ‘amazing’ Sarah

- By EIMEAR DODD

THERE was great sadness in the community of Annacurra following the death of Sarah Elizabeth Carty at the tender age of 28.

Sarah passed away on Thursday last at Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross in Dublin.

A former pupil of Annacurra NS and Coláiste Bhríde, Sarah studied Biomedical Science at the Dublin Institute of Technology and worked as a biomedical scientist.

After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 24, Sarah started a blog called ‘Survival with Style’ to help other people in a similar situation to feel good. The blog shared tips about make up, nutrition and skin care.

Sarah was also a member of the HSE’s Cancer Patient Advisory Committee.

Sarah had a great love of camogie. She played for Annacurra Camogie Club when she was younger, taking part in many championship games. She was known as a dedicated club member who motivated and inspired fellow players both on and off the pitch. She had also been a member of the Wicklow Camogie Executive.

After moving to Dublin, Sarah played for St Kevin’s Hurling and Camogie Club. Both clubs have paid tribute to a wonderful lady in the past few days.

Annacurra Camogie Club said Sarah ‘was an amazing advocate for the camogie club. Her love of camogie was visible on the pitch in every game she participated in and her camaraderie with all her team mates.’

St Kevin’s Hurling and Camogie Club described Sarah as ‘an inspiration to young and old both on and off the pitch’.

Members and players from both clubs formed a guard of honour at her funeral mass.

Sarah was the beloved daughter of Mary and the late Patrick and the youngest sister of Catriona, Mairéad, Aileen, Breda, Niamh, Michael, Patricia, Veronica, Lucia and Edel. She is sadly missed by her heartbroken mother, boyfriend Donal, brother, sisters, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, much loved nieces and nephews, her special aunty Maura, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends

Her funeral mass took place at St Brigid’s Church, Annacurra, on Saturday last with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

May she rest in peace.
