Local Toastmasters use Zoom to meet

-

HAVING cancelled ‘ real life’ meetings in the middle of March, Bray Toastmasters and Greystones Toastmasters have been using Zoom as their meeting room.

Anyone interested in joining the Bray group, is invited to connect with the organisation via the Facebook page ‘ Bray Toastmasters’. For Greystones, it’s Greystones Toastmasters Co. Wicklow.

People who take part are learning how to become more professional and confident speakers in an online world.

They meet on Zoom each Monday evening for Bray, and Thursdays for Greystones. This is an ideal way for people to learn and practise in a safe environment.

The club is an ideal environment for people who need to do online presentations or webinars for work.

For those who don’t need it for work, they can enjoy an entertaining evening of learning, public speaking, and fun.

Having to do a presentation online can be just as nerve-racking as in front of a live audience.

Being a convincing and engaging presenter online is equally important.

Over the last almost two months, organisers have seen how speakers are improving from week to week.

Some top tips for improving online presence include looking at the camera, rather than at the people on screen, as eye contact is important; checking that there is a neat and uncluttered background; checking your appearance; and keeping hand gestures slow in case they appear as a blur.

Speakers should also check the lighting isn’t too bright or dark.
