Services of Worship for this Sunday – The day of Pentecost – Whit Sunday: The church remains closed till further notice. Alternativ­e ways of worship and prayers will be posted on the website as well as informatio­n helpful for the individual or families struggling to adapt to the times that we are currently in. While churches and houses of worship will be permitted to reopen in mid-July, further details are awaited from the Government.

We have also been developing a YouTube Channel for all ages called ‘The Story Tree’ which you can find by clicking the following link: youtube. We have now set up a live stream from the Epiphany Chapel from where you can follow our Sunday services at 11 a.m. The address is: churchserv­ices.tv/christchur­chbray. This is a 24/7 live stream so you can log in at any time, even just to see the familiar interior of our church building.

Urgent Update for all Masses: Following the decision by Government to restrict public gatherings and the guidelines of the Irish Episcopal Conference, the celebratio­n of all weekday and Sunday Masses have been suspended till further notice. The Archbishop of Dublin has announced that everyone is dispensed from the obligation to physically attend Sunday Mass while the present emergency persists. Check the RTÉ schedule for broadcast Mass times. Mass is also brought broadcast through EWTN, Radio Maria, channel which can be found in Saorview and Channel 210. While churches and houses of worship will be permitted to re-open in mid-July, further details are awaited from the Government.

St Peter’s Cemetery, Little Bray: Visitors are requested to help to keep the cemetery tidy by bringing any rubbish home with them. There is strictly ‘No Dumping’ in force in any area of the cemetery. Your co-operation is appreciate­d. When visiting the cemetery please remember to maintain social distancing from other visitors.

Mass Intentions: Any Mass intentions booked for the coming weeks will be streamed on the 9.30 a.m., and 11.30 a.m. Masses on Sunday mornings.

Church Re-Opened: The church re-opened last Monday for private prayer from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Please continue to observe in social distancing in line with Government and HSE guidelines.

QOP YOUTH CLUB

Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club is making preparatio­ns for a possible gradual re-opening in the very near future. It will mean working with staggered small groups of four, observing the required distancing, using face masks and other protective equipment as needed.

The first events may be shore walks in areas that are not frequently used. Club members have been keeping in touch with online quizzes, puzzles, word games and others. There are vacancies for new members, and applicatio­ns may be made to Paul on 2869264.

DIVING CLUB

Bray Divers/Wicklow Aquanauts Sub-Aqua Club are back in action following the easing of restrictio­ns. Groups of four divers using the strict guide lines have had six dives since May 18.

All were in Carrig Eden Bay where the monthly survey had been missed during the lock down. The water was warm, clear, clean and full of wild life. Divers are now doing catch up during the good weather.

During the past week nine people have made enquiries about joining the club. For dive informatio­n call Albert at 087 6756439.

BRAY LIBRARY

Bray Library remains closed till further notice. Borrowers can renew their books online – late return fees will not apply for the duration of the present emergency. Library e-services are still available. While the library is scheduled to re-open in June, strict protocols and social distancing will have to be observed by borrowers in additional to any conditions which will be announced in due course.

BRAY CUALANN HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

All activities and meetings of the Bray Cualann Historical Society, the local history society for Bray and North Wicklow, remain suspended. Full details about the Bray Cualann Historical Society’s future activities, when they are permitted to resume, can be found on the Society’s website.

In the meantime more of the articles in the Ireland’s Own magazine 1920-2020 Centenary Souvenir Edition, the fifth in the Birth of Nation series, edited by Seán Nolan and Shea Tomkins, are ‘The Michael Collins Papers’ in which Eoin Swithin Walsh takes a county by county look at the activities of Michael Collins during the War of Independen­ce as documented in Irish Military Archives; ‘Ambush at Kilmichael – An iconic Republican victory’ recalls the largest ambush in the War of Independen­ce near the village of Kilmichael between Dunmanway and Macroom in west Cork when 36 members local IRA volunteers killed 17 members of the RIC Auxiliary Division, led by General Tom Barry, who mastermind­ed this ambush, ‘The Capture of Ernie O’Malley’ by Eoin Swithin Walsh, ‘Terence Mac.

Swiney – Death on Hunger Strike’ by Tom O’Neill, and ‘Cinemas of Cork in 1920’ by Éamon Ó Buadhachái­n who took a the films that were showing there at that time. Folks Associatio­n (SOFA) are delighted to announce the re-opening of its Book Sale service. However, due to the Covid-19 crisis, it will be an email/phone order and collection service.

You can place an order for specific book titles or authors (and we will check to see if we have them in stock) or you request a specific genre (Fiction, Crime, Mystery, History etc) and leave it up to us to find a suitable book for you. All books are in pristine condition and very competitiv­ely priced. We also have a selection of jigsaws and DVDs also very competitiv­ely priced. To collect the books, we will send you a message to let you know when your book (s) are ready for collection and the amount owing and then you can call to the Shankill Day Care Centre, Lower Road, Shankill D18 HW95, and pick them up between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesdays or Fridays. Please note that we are not in a position to accept new books or take back any returns while the Covid-19 crisis is ongoing.

THE COMMUNITY CALL

As part of the Government response to the Covid-19 crisis, Wicklow County Council has establishe­d Covid-19 Community Call Forum which works with State agencies and community and voluntary to provide supports or service to any vulnerable people who need them such as the collection of essential items like food ,’meals on wheels’, household items, fuel or medicine (in line with guidance), and support for those who are experienci­ng social isolation or cocooning.
