LAKESIDE

ST JOHN BOSKIN’S 4 3

FOLLOWING a spectacular 4-3 victory over St. John Boskin’s Youth Club in Blessington, the Lakeside Reserve team assured their promotion to Division 3 with two games remaining and left themselves requiring three points to win the league title.

Lakeside has to line out without the services of Deirdre Boylan, Maire Boran and Eimear Zeller who were by then regarded as senior players having played their quote of Premier games.

However, on the credit side, Lorraine Tracey and Breda McEvoy made their first appearance of the season.

Shirley Tutty was back after a serious toe injury and also making a comeback after a four-year absence at competitive level was Geraldine Lypsett who demonstrated that she still retains her outstanding abilities.

After a superb first half display, Lakeside led 3-1 at the interval with goals from Tishy Tracey, who had a stormer in this period, and the revitalised Breda McEvoy who notched two.

When ‘Supermac’ completed her hat-trick midway through the second half to give Lakeside a 4-1 lead, it looked like a cake walk for the Blessington girls. However, to the credit of the rugged Dublin girls they came back with two blistering shots, in the final 10 minutes, to stage a grandstand finish.

Lakeside: Trish Murphy, Grainne Eustace, Shirley Reilly, Maeve Hearns, June Reilly, Celine Teague, Shirley Tutty, Lorraine Tracey, Tishy Tracey, Geraldine Lypsett, Breda McEvoy.
