Peter continues 6K steps a day

-

Local Quill Road resident Peter Lawlor wound up his daily 6km walk with a difference during this Covid 19 in scorching sunshine last weekend.

Peter has been attending Open Door on the Vevay in Bray since 1991 every Wednesday and Friday and enjoy the activities. The Physiotherapy helps him greatly with his physical health and he really enjoys the Ceramics with Mark and the gang. Peter loves making presents for his family and friends and he has made so many friends in the centre and loves to chat with the staff, volunteers, and other members and is really look forward to getting back there. Peter is now one of the oldest people in Ireland with a condition called Prader Willi Syndrome (PWS).

It costs €7 per day to attend the Open Door Centre but €2,000 a day to run. With planned fundraising events cancelled due to Covid 19, Peter decided to turn it all into a positive situation and with family, set up a fundraiser for Open Door to help fund the activities when the centre re-opens. He has been doing 6,000 steps per day for the whole month of May which was a huge commitment for him and takes a lot of effort.

Peter started off with an very optimistic goal of raising €5,000 but such was the success of the walk and the popularity of ‘Our Peter’ on his travels every day, The fundraising closed at €19,205 last weekend. Peter and his family would like to thank everyone from all circles of life who gave so generously to his walk and Open Door are also very grateful to both Peter and you all for your generosity. Peter, you were famous in the Kilmacanogue area anyway, now you have become a legend, well done.
